I'd love to see your list. PM me if it's not kosher to post. I don't do a lot of selling, but when I do, I'm pretty easy going and trusting as far as terms/conditions. That being said, I like to cover my bases as much as possible when it comes to blocking bad bidders.

I'm here to question, not to inspire or build up. To live how I want, as I see fit, according to my values and my needs. Nothing holds dominion over me, I stand alone as the ruler of my life.
I'd love to see your list. PM me if it's not kosher to post. I don't do a lot of selling, but when I do, I'm pretty easy going and trusting as far as terms/conditions. That being said, I like to cover my bases as much as possible when it comes to blocking bad bidders.
So what you are saying is that just because someone else had a bad experience with bidder automatically means he is a bad buyer. I have 220 on my BBL. Most for non-payment.
There is one bidder who was posted on another thread as a BBL who spends about 200 a month on cards from me and I have never had a problem.
So if I have bought over 1000 cards online and buy from JUST ONE seller who for one reason or another adds me to his BBL, I get black listed by many other sellers because of this? That is just crazy. There are many things that can go wrong in a transaction and NOT all are the buyers fault, but Ebay does not give buyers the option of blocking sellers.
Lets say I buy a card from you, pay promply card gets lost or damaged in mail, I complain to seller he decided to add me at this moment to his BBL. Is that right?
Many sellers will add people to their BBLs for no real reason, I have done it myself. I got BBL'ed by a seller because I asked how he was shipping the cards? I wanted to card, but much of his feedback indicated he was using plain white envelopes. Should I be BBL'ed by others because of this?
As I said there is one buyer who was on a BBL that was posted in another post that buys about 200 a month from me. If you don't want his business so be it.
"There are many things that can go wrong in a transaction and NOT all are the buyers fault, but Ebay does not give buyers the option of blocking sellers. "

Yup.
I am sure that I have blocked MANY good buyers.
Some were blocked because they bothered me about how I was going to ship/pack their items. (I am among the SAFEST packers and FASTEST shippers on EBAY.)
I just do not want to deal with PITA buyers. I do the job like it should be done, and will not endure the drama of the whiners. It is my choice, and I am sure it costs me business.
Sellers are basically defenseless against PITA/corrupt buyers on EBAY. The BBL just keeps a few potential bad guys away; but, also some good guys.
Buyers can block bad sellers, by simply not buying from them. Sellers have to sell to anybody that gets through with a bid/bin.
My FB is 100% in every collectible category that I have ever had up and running.
My "bargainland-like" stores are NOT 100% because of the quality of the buyers and the merchandise. Buyers of used/sample clothing often think that 2-dozen pairs of socks for 99-cents should look like they just came out of Macy's.
Folks Who Bite Get Bitten. Folks Who Don't Bite Get Eaten.
I have 8 on my list. I think I've added only two from reading threads. And they were both cases of more than one of the fellow members had issues with the id. This may have minimal effect though....I would think the user could just go to another id and you wouldn't know.
<< <i> I am sure that I have blocked MANY good buyers.

>>
Storm, I agree with your post entirely except for this quoted part. Why would you block a buyer for asking a simple question like this? Unless it's clearly stated in your listings how you ship/pack, then I think it's a reasonable inquiry considering how badly many other sellers package goods on ebay. If the question is asked in a polite manner, it shouldn't be a problem to politely answer. You say you're one of the safest shippers on ebay and I'm sure you are, but how does a potentially new customer know this before dealing with you?
Also speed of delivery is on the carrier(UPS, USPS, etc.) not the seller. Although the date the payment is received and the date the item is shipped is entirely on the seller. If a seller takes over a week to ship after a paypal payment, I usually won't buy from them again.
I buy/sell on ebay and have an ebay store. In general I've blocked bidders for the following reasons:
-non paying bidders (this is 80% of my list) -buyers who string you along for 30-40 days saying check is in the mail -buyers I discover that are shill bidders -sellers that are known card doctors -sellers who have screwed me or any card buying buddies in deals -other sellers who do shady things, like not putting a qualifier in the listing title. If you do this and I see that, you're added to my list. -Sellers who put PSA in listing title when they are selling raw cards.
I don't want to do any business with any of these type of folks.
I did not say my policy was rational or appropriate. Only said that is how I do it.
A polite request, like, "Please try to ship safe and fast. Thanks!," is not the kind of message I find offensive.
A message like, "Be sure my items are boxed and shipped right away," earns a spot on my BBL.
I do not talk down to buyers, act rudely, or harm their interests in any way. I will not allow even the slightest hint of disrespectful behavior to be administered to me from a buyer. MOST sellers should probably NOT adopt my policy; it is just how I prefer to do business on EBAY.
Like MANY sellers, I ONLY play on EBAY for "fun and profit;" if either element seems to me that it might be threatened, the offending party is history.
Thousands of repeat customers on MANY of my accounts - EBAY and old-fashioned mail order - KNOW that I am never going to hurt them. Suspicious folks need to take their chances with somebody other than me. Alot of folks who exhibit suspicion have, as noted, been previously burned. BUT, many such folks are simply engaging in the projection/transfer of their own bad tendencies onto those they are suspicious of.
Most folks think EBAY is built on "communciation." I think EBAY is built on folks who say what they are going to do and then follow through rapidly. VERY little communication is necessary. LOTS of great performance/action on the part of buyers/sellers is really all that is required to assure that things go smoothly.
I am NOT encouraging ANYBODY to see things my way. Only stating how I see things.
Folks Who Bite Get Bitten. Folks Who Don't Bite Get Eaten.
zero. hopefully will keep it that way. I have only sold about 120 cards and nothing lower than maybe $115 and only sell graded cards with detailed front/back scans so maybe that has something to do with the fact I have never had any problems. It seems like a lot of the issues here arise from low dollar transactions, where the seller charges too much for postage or doesn't package the item properly, or raw card transactions where there is a notable difference in the stated and actual condition of the card. Fortunately, I now sell most of my cards to former ebayers whom I now deal with directly.

PITA buyers come in every business... Whether its Travel, Entertainment, Restaurants or sports cards.. When I list items on ebay, the goal is to get the highest price possible. Sometimes people send me e-mails with the most ridiculous questions ever but you never know who you are dealing with. Maybe some kid just saved up his lunch money for a month to buy a $20 card from me and wants to make sure everything goes smoothly.. I have had many businesses in my life so maybe my tolerance is higher then most. The only reason i WOULD ever block someone is if they were a non-payer.
Person won three auctions -- our p/h is 2.95 for upto 10 cards I received an email from them asking in essence "since paypal is quicker can I just paypal and send you $1.00 p/h since that is all it probably costs you"
I use our standard cut and paste response that says actually postage is only a part of the equation and that bubble mailers, mailing labels, stamps.com subscription costs etc are all a part of the process and that our price is reasonable and fixed. In addition, I respond that for the cost conscious customer we offer an SASE option on lower priced cards just to make sure to send a large envelope (so that we can adequately protect your order) with sufficient postage to cover the shipping of three cards.
Today in the mail I get a small envelope with one stamp on it. This is the same guy that will complain when one of his cards arrives damaged.

Cavalier, I'm impressed by your high blocked number. What a PITA buyer you have yet again. This stuff is unreal to me. It's like ebay is a large flea market and some, mostly very few buyers, will take that flea market mentality to a new level and absolutely insult a seller. It doesn't surprise me one bit.
-----------------------------------
Wanted to mention that quite a few of my blocked bidders are non-registered now too.
I've found with the stuff I sell, that I've had the most problems with newer card buyers, meaning PSA cards from the 1980's. I don't know why this era of cards brings the most deadbeat and problem buyers but for me it does. I don't deal with anything newer that 1989 typically. Mostly I sell late 1950's thru late 1970's cards. On occasion I've taken on consignments for some 80's cards and these always bring out the worst buyers, at least for me.
I would say 99% of all my sales for pre 1980 cards go off without a hitch.

Mine is at least 100 deep, and is a result of not only poor transactions on eBay but from warnings from other members both here and on the Beckett boards.
True -- I've got a lot of Block Bidders - probably 2/3's of the list are from persons who never honored their bids. We've been doing this for a while and have 50,000 plus ebay transactions and have had more opportunity to be stiffed than most.
On the other hand I've had persons who have emailed and asked to be removed from the BB list b/c they see something they really want and have turned into good customers.
Maybe I need to revisit the SASE option -- we've just got some customers who have been using it religiously for years -- maybe I can grandfather them.
