Heads up for possible ebay scam....

Hey guys...I ran across a few of this seller's cards and I really think he is stealing scans of slabbed cards and cropping the images so only the card is visible. The link is, I believe, actually a PSA 7 that I actually bid on. It looks like the same card and it has the same scratch on the holder near the top of the card. I contacted the seller and asked to see more of the card and that I thought they were in actual third party slabs. He replied that they are in HIS plastic cases and that if I don't like it, then I should not bid. Maybe I'm wrong here, but I'd like to know what you guys think of it.

My guess is this is a "bait-and-switch" scam, as opposed to a "no card at all" scam. I wonder if his other auctions have similarly cropped slabs?

Ebay scammer 101 course:

1. Build up feedback with cheap lots, and sell just enough to become a Power Seller.
2. Come in for the kill with expensive lots and stiff the buyers. Ebay account gets naru'd.
3. Open a new bank account, open a new ebay account, and repeat 1 & 2.

The only way these filthy scammers are going to stop is to throw them in jail.

I hope I am wrong, but I suspect EBAY will not
take any drastic action against this seller.

If just a few of these crooks were prosecuted and
jailed, the thief population on EBAY would split. They
only keep doing this stuff because there are never
any consequences.

EBAY Trust&Safety refuses to act.

The "owner of the scans" can report their "unauthorized use."
If they can "prove" ownership of the scans, EBAY will "investigate."

I am NOT surprised.

I told him that I was interested in bidding on a couple of his Mantles and requested a scan of the back of the cards. It will be interesting to see what they come up with

Hopefully many of the bidders will not pay. Or if they do Pay they use their CCs. This is one of the bad things about the lawsuit Paypal lost recently. They used to limit the accounts of people who suddenly started getting items priced way out of their norm, but under the terms they have to have proof of fraud before they can act.

EvilBAY was repeatedly given written/oral warnings
that the listings were a problem. They refused to do
anything. (MANY of their employees are on "vacation"
in Boston.)

If/when the buyers get burned, I hope they are given
the docs to show that EvilBAY knew what was going
on.

this seller just picked off the scan of my 1952 topps campanella. he/she cropped out most of the slab of course. what a loser!

The scam is, they steals the images of Nr Mint Mint cards. When they sell (I assume when the people pay so there not out any money) they then buys lesser graded cards off Ebay and sends those instead make 100-200% profit. Check there feedback as a buyer and then see there completed auctions.

i dont appreciate you stealing my scan and cropping out the psa slab. there is a long thread about you on the collectors universe talk boards about your deceptive business practices of stealing other people's scans of decent cards then substituting your lesser cards to the unsuspecting buyers when you ship. that is called theft by deception. you are intentionally cropping out the slabs from the pics to deceive the buyers into thinking they are bidding on something of obviously superior quality than the product you are trying actually trying to sell then ship to them. you should just post real scans/pics of your own cards then you arent committing any felonies. once payment is received and your items are shipped, wire fraud and postal fraud comes into the mix. there is no way the risk can be worth the $ you reap from the scam. that advice is free.

Since all of his auctions end at almost the same time, if anybody has an alternate ID they could snipe up to 10 of them (I think that's the default ebay number) and then leave 10 negatives. The account can't be a new one or the feedback is removed.

It's too bad that more vintage people don't come here even just to read the boards. Lots of good information here!

That is never good advise, even on an old account if the seller can prove that the only reason bids were placed were for leaving negative feedback then all feedback can be removed and the offender suspended.

sadly this mutt was a power seller. That in and of itself leads some to believe the guy is legit (not here of course) I see where some guy paid over 500.00 for a card and claims it was great.

The sad thing about mutts like this guy is it hurts legit sellers. That is why it is imperative to have a good reputation on ebay. The few dollars that you can make shilling just ain't worth it.

the sad part is that i had called ebay and informed them prior to any of these auctions being completed. all this happened after i warned them. one guy is stuck for over $6k it looks. i think these were college kids thinking they were slick.

Heads up for possible ebay scam....
