Topps Folders

I'm a bit bored on a Sunday night, so I thought I'd take some pictures of the baseball card folders I have. A very good source tells me the 1990 folders are quite difficult to find, and are not even listed in the Standard Catalog.

Anyway, here are the 1988-1990 Topps folders, and a 1993 Upper Deck folder. The UD folder doesn't actually have cards in it, but is designed so you can insert your own favorite cards that will show on the outside.

I don't think the 1988 or 1989 are worth much, but the 1990 folders are apparently pretty tough to find. I hope you didn't throw those away!

Drew, I've got the '88 Butler folder - I looked a loooong time for it. I finally won a lot of them on eBay which included 10 each of five different Indians players. I wasn't aware that they also made the folders in '89 and '90. I don't suppose you have a checklist of players that were represented in those years, do you?

I actually bought three of those folders several years back (1988 Cal Ripken, 1989 Wade Boggs, 1989 Don Mattingly); I still have them but well worn. Does anyone know (now that you brought it up) all the folders they made for each of those years?

According to the Standard Catalog there are 130 folders in the 1988 set, reduced to 39 in the 1989 set. They don't list the 1990 set. Book values for the others are $1-2.50 apiece.
  • I have bo jackson 1988 folder.
  • There is/was a few of those at my local .99 store. I remember when those came out.

  • Oh yes, I have a couple of the 88's. Fernando Valenzuela and Ruben Sierra. Took the Sierra one to a minor league game to see if I could get him to sign it and was snubbed. I was told by another guy that was trying to get autos that he was an autograph snob and good luck getting him to even look at you let alone sign something. Ended up getting Carlos Pena to sign it who plays for Tampa Bay now.
  • Here is a poor pic of my folder

I just received and item I've never even heard of and it's a very nice match to the Upper Deck folder.

The inside of the front cover even pictures the card back. Very nice item, and a complete surprise to me!

I'd guess they ended up there eventually. Doesn't mean they're easy to find, though. I think the 1990 Topps and 1993 Upper Deck folders are particularly tough, and I've never even heard of the notepad before.

Somewhere I have a notepad featuring Nolan Ryan from the Upper Deck Loose Collection (I think that's the card). I thought it was really neat when I got it back in the day.

I've been told it's not even listed in the Standard Catalog. (I just got my own copy last week, so I'll check when I get home.)
