How about a birth coin for the new Darksider? IMPORTANT INFO ADDED!

Big congratulations to 1Jester and his family and their new son!image

Matthew Adam,
born on this date,
sure to receive
his pieces of eight.

His birth announced
within this collectors forum,
so a decision's to be made
that requires a quorum.

1Jester has been a stalwart poster and a voice of reason here for years, and I feel moved to make this pledge: $10 towards an appropriate birth coin and urge others to pledge what they can, even if only a dollar or two. If you would like to do so, please PM me.

If you wish, I will take on the responsibility of accepting contributions towards a birth coin. Then, years from now, Jester will have this story to relate to Matthew and how it all came about.

I don't want to pick the coin, I would leave that up to a consensus decision. We are all usually a product of several countries bloodlines and I think it would be fun to find the perfect coin that historically ties it all together for him.

Please PM me with your intentions and I'll get back to you soon once I've had a chance to assess the response.

A worthy and long-time forum member has made an incredible offer! If we reach $200 this member will double it to $400! As of 5/2 we are approximately $50 short of that $200 goal. We can't miss this opportunity! If you haven't pledged yet, now is the time.

I second the congratulations and will be happy to contribute the $10 towards an appropriate coin.

    I'm in for $10.

If we can get enough people, may I suggest a gold coin? Even a 1/10 oz from 2007 would be nice.

I think the poll idea has merit unless we are purchasing more than one. Edit to add my $10 image

What a great group! We already have 6 pledges towards the birth year coin.image I'd like to let this run for a while, maybe a week to accumulate pledges and take suggestions for the appropriate coin. If someone wants to create a poll, please feel free. I will reply to the PM's I have received later once I see where we are headed.

Since daddy is an American, and mommy is Polish, maybe a coin that's related to both countries would be nice. I'll see what I can find.

hmm . . . on second thought this may not be possible because of the date (2007).

I am deeply moved by the forums contributions!image

At this point we have 8 contributors and close to $80. I would love to see an accumulation of small ($1 and $2 and $3 contributions as well as the larger $10 goal per person. If things continue we can do this boy proud!

My apologies to those who PM'd me with their contribution and may have expected an immediate answer- I will respond to you in several days with the salient information. Thank you for your patience.

Does anyone want to set up a poll? I'm afraid never having done it that I'll screw it up.image Please don't hesitate LordM or Wybrit or Ajaan or Spinnaker or Stork or any of the regulars (indeed anyone who has the interest and expertise-many new great posters within recent times ) who've been around for many years. This is where I need your expertise!image

I will undertake to have created a scroll on nice parchment paper bearing the name of all the contributors, in the name of the forum, welcoming the young lad into the world and perhaps pre-ordaining a numismatist, even at this young age. Now if I can seperate my artistic son from the work on his forthcoming book to do the scroll, perhaps with a little inspired art, heck, that would make my day!image

By the by, if the young ones birthlines are through Poland and the US then two birth coins might work if one can't be found to satisfy us.

Over $100 now, should be able to buy a really nice birth coin but a lot of regulars have not chimed in.

A few more pledges and we can go to a poll concerning which coin is most appropriate.image Come on guys and gals, lets have fun!

Of all things valuable in life, a community, a sharing, caring assemblage that you can fit into is among the most important of relationships that you can develop.

The PCGS forum, its individual members and sponsor, its spirit as a whole, represents the best of what the modern internet can do best, that is, to bring citizens of diverse countries and philosophies together in a common interest, indeed, a community.

However, this forum achieves more. The spirit of support for this young man's birth coin or coins is proof of that.

At last count pledges total $152.00! We are on track to be able to commemorate this event with a really nice coin!

I would begin to appreciate some suggestions, share some ideas as to what we should look for. Cathy mentioned a Sovereign, Ajaan something gold, what are your ideas?

Again, I've read all PM's and listed your contributions and will PM everyone soon with how to make your contribution. Thanks for your commitment and patience.image
