I took a chance on some pictures on ebay this weekend...what are your stories?

I won these two auctions: 1 sen

and 10 sen

the latter with a couple of interesting underbidders.

The pictures are crappy, but the theme seems to be 'funky red' which makes me wonder (hope) this is a function of the photographer and not the coins.

If these are nice and not messed with, then the 1 sen in AU is reasonably priced and cool and can upgrade what's in my album. If it's an UNC then image.

The 1958 10 yen reeded edge carries quite a premium in the JNDA catalog if it's UNC--the color really put me off until I saw some of this guy's other stuff. I see some spots too, but we'll see image. If that thing is okay in hand I will be a happy, happy person!

Just for fun, let's here some other good bad picture/good coin stories!

edited because I can't spell yen image

Took a trip to Menard's. Fixed a leaky toilet. Put some handles on the gate to the yard. Assembed a BBQ grill.

Hmmm, I have been on both sides of the win line buying from "icky, iffy" Pics. I have scored a few beauties that looked like they had been polished by the pic posted, and I have gotten a few cleaned/polished coins that looked nice by the sellers pics. Overall, if the price is reasonable I will take a chance on it. More often than not I come out a winner. My best find is a 1933-D 2 Reichsmark that had a washed out bright silver pic with no details visible from a seller with less than 20 feedbacks, since I needed it for my date/mint set of Germany, I placed a bid for a little more than melt and won. When I received it I felt guilty, it was a blast white MS coin (I grade it as MS-63) that I paid 4 bucks for with the shipping (We will see what PCGS says). On the other hand, I have a very nice looking reproduction that I have 80 bucks invested in (I have since learned to read the ENTIRE post) not just want I want to hear and see... Live and learn...
