Wow-(101) 1993 Finest Refractors of Pudge for sale

We haven't had one of these discussions in awhile. How about 101/241 (or so they used to say) refractors of one player for sale at once? Pudges' used to sell for $400 in PSA 9 a piece! This was less than a year ago, mind you...

Pudges for All!

  • And 160 have been graded by PSA. Now I know a good percentage of those graded are crack resubmits but...
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

by flooding the market at one time this auction is basically killing the resell value on any future cards. Chants of this cards is crazy rare will be met with some dude sold 101 of them at one time.

Id rather buy a 1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle PSA 3 instead of that modern hype.

This guy had been hoarding them for a while at $250-$350 each, or something like that. Talk about taking a bath.

Also, I'd venture to say that a lot of these had been graded PSA 9 or lower and he cracked them out. Not to mention all the crack and resubmits, that 160 is very inflated (maybe by 100% or more). I'm sure jmbk will chime in on this one. I really don't see the card losing value unless the guy who buys them sells one per week or something stupid like that.

This guy has sold 20+ in the last 3 months that are graded PSA 9 and has been getting $200/piece for them. He must have realized that selling nothing but this card got old real fast. Sad thing is some guy will probably dump $5k on these.

He was actively offering $400 per PSA 9 not that long ago. I think mine went in eBay auction for about $450 to this very same person. A few weeks after mine was sold, PSA 9s reached $500-$600, with 10s approaching $1k. Now, not so much. I would like to know how many he really had. He's been selling for quite some time now.

$5k wouldn't be a bad price, if you could afford it. $50 a pop is great for this card, as CDNuts mentioned...

I'll probably get slammed for saying this but......

looks like trying to corner the market on one particular card has a good chance of crapping on your head. I'll say no more.

Well, cornering the market at its peak probably isn't the way to go. If this would be my tactic, I'd much rather corner the market on some random parallel numbered out of 200-500 from a set that isn't that popular right now, but could be in the future because people decide to put that set together and can't seem to find the card you're hoarding. Like maybe going for a Pudge in some random SP Authentic or SPX parallel.

  • cornering the market sucks. i have a little over half of a particular card and there's not a damn thing i can do with it. i like the player so it's cool with me to just keep them, never was trying to make money.

Wow, you have over 4,000,000 Ozzie Smith 1992 Topps Gold? That must've taken some time to put together.

  • I sold him at least 40 of those raw copies!!

    image

    For about $250 each!

    edited to add:

p.s. Ed at one time had about 120 Pudge cards. I sold him about 40 raw and 20 PSA 9s ($400 ea.). It's a shame to see them go for so little now. If I had any interest, I'd buy them at the asking price. It's a fair one.

Someone should tell the seller that it might not be a good idea to say the Pudge refractor is "an impossible card from an impossible set" when he's dumping 105 of the suckers onto the market all at once. image

For a set with supposed high values, it is sure an ugly design. But it is its contrived scarcity that makes it so desirable, I guess.
  • I bet you could get them for less than $5,000 and make 500-600 % on them in the long and short term.

Edited to add: I know these cards. If I submit that card, it gets 9OC - seriously.

How many are graded 10s? Those ones almost certainly are still in their holders.

Looking for Jonny Gomes cards, especially Triple Threads and printing plates. Will consider all cards, though. Got something? Contact me at c_u_l_1@yahoo.com
  • I would image that, of the 160 graded by PSA, approximately 25-35% of those are crackouts. There are 15 PSA 10s out of 160 graded.

I personally have cracked and resubmitted ~15 of those Pudge cards to get a few extra 10s to sell for $1,200 ea.
