Grades pop up.......think i'll throw up now!

You ever get grades and wonder "HOW" could that grade like that. I had a Patrick Roy opc rookie that looked flawless i hoped for a 9 maybe an 8 at worst. NO.......nice 7, no way!!!! An opc Lemieux rookie nice not bad....about a 7...no, try a 5...you must be sh@$*$ me, is this a joke??? 58 Mantle AS i expected a 7, slight shot at an 8.....try a 6. Good news.....I had an 87 fleer Jordan come back a 9 and Gretzky topps rookie an 8. Also a 56 Mays came back a 5.....about what i expected. Anyone else ever just feel like your grades are a total disappointment? Or is this standard PSA grading ? Feedback welcome............. excuse me i have to go vomit. (JK but this sucks)!!

Yep, been there, done that. I usually am pretty good about knowing what my grades are going to be. In other words, I am not a novice. My last submission (the last special), I literally was yelling at the computer. I was absolutely furious.

Is it your first submission? Everybody here's first sub was a big wake up call. Makes you realize that top grade cards are hard to find and why they bring so much.

YEP, on my first submission, Stevie Wonder could have done a better job of picking cards to submit. image

Something I've found that helps is to buy already graded cards in whatever your area is (vintage, modern, game used, etc....), so that you can look them over with a 10X loop and see what the corners of a PSA 8, PSA 9, perhaps even PSA 10 look like. Then when you look at your raw cards you can say "these corners have the same amount of wear as that PSA whatever that I have". Obviously there are factors other than corners, but when I bought some vintage PSA 8's and PSA 9's, then checked my raw cards, my submission pile shrunk, and my 8s and 9s popping went up. Just my thought on the subjecy.

Also been there and done that. However, I still feel I was shortchanged on some of my cards. I have sevaral 1972 Topps Basketball that were graded 7's and 8's and should have been 8's and 9's. Especially when compared to some other 8's and 9's I see other dealers have. Eventually I will crack and resubmit.

as many have or will suggest, the early stages of your PSA grading life will be perhaps frustrating, but a good learning experience.....suffering the disappointment will help you in the long run as you discover the aspects of cards which make them worthy of the higher grade or what should urge you to put them back in the box.....

i love my PSA 5 collection! image
  • Well, perhaps if everyone stopped submitting for a period of time, grading companies would be a bit more inclined to closely follow their grading scales.

I believe arrogance plays a role in this process.

This is why I will never again submit.

Nope. Sorry. Too much money involved...

When there's that much money, corruption follows.
