Autograph Experts/Collectors: George Brett?

Hey Guys,
I have a question. Does anyone know when George Brett may be appearing on the West coast for any signings? Has anybody had any success with him via mail? I'm not an autograph guy at all, but have a client who would love a signature. Any help is always appreciated,
dgf

I've never known Brett to do any kind of signings public or private. He is VP of Baseball Operations for the Royals and I think has business interests in KC, like a restaurant so he probably doesn't need any card show income. If he does any signings, I would imagine it would be for charity in KC but maybe someone knows otherwise.

*Everyone* needs card show income. Those guys rake in some serious cash for a few hours work.

No kidding! 4 years ago, Ripken's 4 hour appearance fee was $100k. Our local promote wanted to get him, but there was no way he could get enough people pumped through the door in 4 hours to justify it. And to give you an idea, here is an article on McCovey being sentenced to probation for tax evasion.. (This is from 1995, when the fees weren't nearly as bad!)

Willie McCovey, the former San Francisco Giants baseball star, was recently sentenced to two years, probation and fined $5,000 for evading taxes on baseball memorabilia.

McCovey, 57, told Brooklyn (NY) Federal Judge Edward Korman, "The only thing I'd like to say is well, I've always tried to do the right things. I have never tried to cheat the government....It's one of those things. I was overlooked at the time, and I do accept responsibility for it," he said. "I have never in my life deliberately tried to cheat the government or do anything wrong," he added.

Last summer, McCovey admitted that he failed to declare $41,800 in income earned in 1989 and $69,800 in earnings from 1988 to 1990 from signing autographs at baseball memorabilia and sports promotions shows (JET, Aug. 7, 1995). Baseball Hall of Famer Duke Snider also pleaded guilty to tax fraud last summer and was sentenced to probation in December.

McCovey is a Baseball Hall of Famer and is listed among baseball's all time home run champions. He retired in 1980.

I looked too, and couldn't find Brett signing anywhere. Usually www.signingshotline.com has them all, but he's not even listed. If he does to do shows, tri star probably has him as they have a big presence in the KC area. Seems to me he signed there a couple years back.

When is the HOF induction ceremony? Denny Matthews is being inducted, so I'm sure Brett will be there. At least I hope. Surely there would be an opportunity for an autograph there.

Brett rarely does shows. If he does, the proceeds normally go to ALS.

Doesn't make much economic sense for a promoter.
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

He's not on the National schedule - I have a few items I want to get signed down the road - I'll be looking next year.

You can check the Royal's web - I was gonna have my brother-in-law go for me if he does a charity thing for KC.

I want to do a display - my favorite item to date:

This is a GU ball - lightly auto'ed - from his 3000th hit - it's PSA/DNA to include a letter from the ump of the game.

I was lucky to pick this up at a good price - there's a bunch of them - I think the weak sig is why this one didn't go crazy - but I don't care - this is not just a sig - it's GU with history!
