Dozen circulated Canadian Large Cents - any thoughts?

Won this as one very inexpensive lot at a local auction tonight. I know some of these need a bath in acetone, but other than that, if it's a really slow weekend, I would appreciate any thoughts, grades, or other opinions on them. Do they have a book for Canadian coins similar to the ANA grading standards for US coins?

The Charlton(?) Canadian coin catalog might have specialized standards for Canadian coins, but since I do not have that, I can't say. I just use general Krause standards as I would for any world coin.

I'd give those a Vaseline rubdown, and the second 1888 might benefit from some acetone.

Thanks Rob. I have an '06 Charlton, and an '04 Coins of Canada, but neither really have the equivalent of the ANA guide, but that's ok. I'm not big into US large cents to compare with, but I suppose I can wing it for now.

Now I have to figure out how good the Charlton is at reality pricing. Even if I use the lowest grade in the 06 book (VG-8 for all but F-12 for the 1919)and assuming I matched up the chins correctly, it's telling me these are worth $70 Canadian. I think some are better than VG, but if this book is like the Redbook, that means about $40 in reality

There is also 'Coins of Canada' by Haxby, similar in nature to Charlton's book.

IMHO they all are problem coins. Some look cleaned and retoned. Some have verdigris (sp?) that might be removed with acetone or a long EVO Oil bath. That said, there are some varieties in the group that have a premium:

There is a Canadian Grading Guide available. It was co-authored by Charlton and Willey and published by Whitman in 1965. You should be able to find one on the Bay for less than $5.

I have the latest edition of the Carlton/Willey Standard Grading Guide for Canadian Coins. I wouldn't be without it. The coins are all line drawings like the old Brown & Dunn grading guide for US coins.
