  • What he is really saying is he opened a bunch of packs and wants to show some scans of the cards. Let's not eat him alive now or at least yet. image

I just re-read it and it does sound kind of shady.

    jasonjames1979,

If you have to get $40 a pack you waaaaay overpaid. packs have been selling ungraded for between $9-35 on eBay over the last week. Yes, $9 was way too low but even graded packs GAI 8 and 9's don't bring $40????

    36 packs X $40 = $1440 box and I've seen boxes in the $1000 range.....I think you guys overpaid.

I'd love to buy these cards and I can afford $40 a pack but its just too much. Ungraded packs trade commonly between $30- $35 quite frequently.

Are these cards any better quality than we would normally find to justify the high price?

I might try one just for fun but I need to know condition is Mint+ to justify the price.

Last three non-graded packs to sell on eBay went for $34.33, 36.00, and 42.99 (each one with $4.00 s&H). $40 per pack seems right in line with that. I don't think he mentioned what he paid for the packs--he might have picked them up for $20 apiece. Difficult to say if he overpaid or not.

What is the link for that $9 Desert Shield pack?

What the seller paid is irrelevant. Each potential buyer has to determine if $40 per pack works for them. Whether the seller paid 1 penny or $39.99 for each pack makes no difference.

Here is a link to the $9 pack that sold on eBay....
    $8.99 Sale DS Pack

    BOB,

The three sales from "TrainsRus2005" that you listed are likely FAKE as his listing states resealed material as a poss when he states that each pack may contain only one DS shield card per pack....crazy. When I emailed him he WOULD NOT offer money back if determined resealed...do not trust all the info on eBay.

clay- the $9 pack you listed also says you may get one or 15 shields per pack, which is something I've never heard. Maybe Trainsrus and this guy are the same? Either way, $40 is a little high but not completely out of line if they are legit packs. The prices you see on ebay take the "risk factor" into account.

If they're legit, $40 is a good price per pack. A few years ago I bought 5 packs for around $45 per pack. After that cost and the grading, I did pretty well, and that was without getting any of the big cards like Chipper, Ryan, and Ripken. If they came with some sort of money back guarantee, I'd say go for it. That's a pretty fun set, in my opinion.

...you should post larger pics though... lol.
  • the packs are legit.

    i guarantee or $ back.

how do i post bigger picks?

    thanks

    Lee,

The seller would NOT offer money back.....and the people that I trust who were in the field who opened packs know that legit packs have all cards w logo, so the one card packs are resealed! Guys, GAI 8's go for about $30 and 9's might reach $40....so it better be premium product with perfect centering and solid edges to command $40 raw. 15 commons will sell for $8 raw, even 15 commons that all grade PSA 9 will only make your money back and submitters know that only about 1/2 of the best subs grade PSA 9 with these. Bottom line is that you're going to need to hit a Ryan, Griffey, Thomas, Ripken, Clemens or Chipper to make $1 at $40 per pack.

Honestly, a guy could make good money if he got into a box with high grade cards but you'd have to buy 20-36 packs to hit a significant amount of stars and even then you'd have to grade all of them and get the stars in PSA 9...and hit a couple 10's per 50 cards submitted.....wait 4SC is doing this already, nevermind.

The guy with the (poss) resealed packs has three listed. Poss Resealed DS Packs on eBay Remember, I emailed this seller and they DID NOT OFFER RETURNS IF RESEALED OR FAKE!!! The response from the seller is to buy insurance so you can defraud the USPS, LMAO!! "no,but the resealed is fine, never opening and as far as damager in mailing.put the insurance on it. that will make it safe for you. thanks shirley."

Jason, This should give you an idea of what they go for as he started listing around $10.

While a few of us are smart enough to email about return policy when we get one one DS card and the pack is fake, someone will not be as wise and bid it up over $30 for sure.

Jason, I'm not saying $40 a pack is too high, just too high unless the product is A: not picked through (was box sealed? I don't know as I don't buy raw if there were sealed new) and B: centering is perfect. Centering is very hit or miss with early 90 wax. If you open a couple packs and it is all well centered and sharp edges then $40 would be about break even on a rip and grade proposal...as long as condition is almost perfect.

REMEMBER almost 800 cards....15 cards per pack....about 15 star cards that trade above commons...Chance to hit any one card is 1:53; chance to hit a star card 1:4. So you better plan on buying half a box to have a shot at a few star cards ($700).

I might take one pack just for fun if the centering is really nice but the guys I know on the registry, and I buy/sell to almost every one of them, don't buy packs to grade the rip as it is a losing proposition because condition is very tough with this set.

I bought 5 Desert Shield packs from Jason and there's no doubt in my mind that they're legit. Tight seals, consistent roller marks, tight corners. Packs would probably grade a 9 if submitted. I opened my packs and didn't get much in the way of star-power, but did get about 12 cards I think have a reasonable shot at a 10, including Palmeiro.

$40 is a fair price for the packs.

  • Thanks Lee,

I hope you are happy w/ them.
