    Here are a few.

    Did any 1933 Saints really leave the Mint legitimately (according to established practices for obtaining coins at the mint)?

    What happened to all the 1873-S Seated Dollars? Were they, in fact, melted to make Trade Dollars?

    Were the 12,000 business strike dollars minted in Philadelphia in 1895 melted in the Pittman Act, or were they actually dated 1894?

    You know, I didn't intend to start yet another '33 Saint debate. Suffice it to say that I don't KNOW exactly how Switt got his, or when. There is no audit trail one way or another to authoritatively and irrefutably back up any claims from the Switt heirs *or* the government as far as I can tell.

    And thus, it's a great mystery, since nothing can be established beyond a reasonable doubt one way or another. Because the answer to that question would presumably bury the debate and decide the fate of all such coins moving forward.

    No one was blind. The error was discovered in the mint AFTER they were mixed in a bin full of properly prepared 1955 cents. Since the U.S. was in dire need of the cents, rather than melt the batch of the flawed ones and good ones, Chief Coiner Sydney C. Engel decided to just release all of them to the public.

    What was the purchasing power at the time?
    More importantly, was the guy doing it on his own time with his own raw materials, or was he doing it on company time using company equipment and raw materials? You can turn a profit with no overhead out of your own pocket.
