    C - Bench
    1B - Gehrig
    2B - Hornsby
SS - A-Rod (Wait, is this for a playoff game?)
    3B - Brett
    OF - Mays
    OF - Ruth
    OF - Cobb
    P - Matthewson

If this is for one game only, I insert Ruth as my starting pitcher (714 HR from the 9 hole!) and Ted Williams in the outfield.

I'll take Gene Tenace at catcher, Ron Santo at third and Bert Blyleven as my pitcher and I will still beat anyone who has left Babe Ruth and Honus Wagner on the table for me to pick. We can quibble about who was the best at any other positions, but not those two - and by HUGE margins.

    Bench
    Gehrig
    Morgan
    Schmidt
    Wagner
    Williams
    Cobb
    Ruth
    Johnson
This is for you @thisistheshow - Jim Rice was actually a pretty good player.
