Safe Plastic Bags For Coins

Any bag that is made for food storage is safe (usually polyethylene.)

Avoid anything labelled PVC or has a shower curtain smell.

Buy a heat sealing machine and some 4-mil low density polyethylene rolled tubing. You can find the machine in most coin supply catalogs, and you can heat seal proof sets, coin capsules, or any types of rolls inside its own pouch to make them less prone to scratches, moisture or wear from normal handling.

The machine has a razor blade cutter and a high temp heat strip with a thermostat and timer, in order to optimize the setting for the type of plastic you are using. The rolled tubing comes in 4 inch or 6 inch flat rolls. I've used one of these for many different purposes, but I really like how I can custom-make a protective sleeve that keeps my boxes and/or plastic cases fresh. I haven't used it for original paper rolls, but it would be perfect.

I make my own protective sleeves for slabs, too - especially the ones that won't fit my PCGS storage boxes.

I just received some OBW Franklin Halves, jammed into a square tube - and I really didn't like the fact that the paper is now squished (extruded) towards one end of the roll.

I don't suppose its a big deal, because eventually I plan to prospect those rolls myself. But, if I did decide to re-sell them, a new buyer might wonder about why the paper is all deformed.
