1981 Donruss Stargell

Hey Guys,
I had a chance to purchase some original 1981 Donruss color negatives that were used to make their cards. One of them was a Stargell. I always liked this shot of "Pops". I made a 10x15 print and it is so crystal clear and the color is electric! Sure is a far cry from what Donruss did with these negatives. Notice my photo is not cropped, of course, as I used the full 35mm frame. Anyway, I just thought you might find the shot interesting.

Collector of Pittsburgh Pirates cards for a slightly less stupid reason.

Exactly! I think they were in a pretty big hurry on those. The image quality is there on many of these. Some are rougher than others but, for the most part, the look like the Stargell. Now that I own 40 different negatives from the set, I will continue to build it. If I get up to 200 or so, I just may re-release the set someday in part. Wouldn't that be cool???
I'm glad you guys like the image. I loved Willie Stargell. He was truly a treat to watch. You know, very few people today recognize that he was a top-notch outfielder for a decade with a cannon of an arm.
I work alongside Bill Madlock every week and I enjoy hearing him tell the stories. One of my favorites was Bill telling Willie in the '79 series--just prior to Stargells HR in game 7, "Move 'em over Bro and I'll get him in...", Madlock says Stargell broke out laughing and said "Time to take care of business Dog", and promptly dropped a bomb into the Maryland night.
He was a Dude!

<< <i>Still remember watching the Saturday game of the week on NBC and Willie sliding into second in a cloud of dust. He pops up a couple feet short of the bag, and thinking quickly, calls for a timeout. Me and my dad got a good laugh at that one.

That's hilarious!
Thanks for sharing. Very cool.
Go Phillies
Didn't Pop's hit the most HR's in the 1970's decade or am I wrong on this fact?

Arny,
I grabbed quite a few Mariners, a handful of Pirates (Grant Jackson looks great), Willie Aikens, some White Sox & Giants. I'll get 'em scanned in and share some as I finish them. They're fun, but they are DIRTY! They need a lot of cleaning. I think the gang at Donruss ate a lot of greasy sandwiches and played in the sand with glue a whole bunch.

Pops hit 292 homers in the 70's the next best is Bench at 288.
