How to cross old SGC to PSA?

I recently bought a set of 1921 Schapira Brothers Babe Ruth cards housed in old SGC holders. They arrived today and look fantastic! I would prefer that they reside in PSA holders. However, I do not want to crack them out in case PSA doesn't like them.

The big ESPCC show is this weekend right here in beautiful Reading, PA. Can I take them to PSA onsite and get an opinion? I don't want to waste a few hundred $$$ taking a chance on crossing if I don't have to.

Can anyone fill me in on my options for this weekend? Thanks!

John

Best of luck- I've asked for opinions a few times at non-nationals and they don't have graders there- just intake people that don't have any idea on things like that.
I'd suggest sending it in for crossover with a min grade, and if it doesn't make that decide then if you want to crack it out or leave it intact.
edited to add- the black matte sure makes the colors pop!

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

  • Seems like an all or nothing proposition here. If you submit with a minimum grade you might end with only a few crossing over while the others remain in their SGC slab. That is unless you can arrange differently prior to submitting. Good luck. Nice cards. image

You sure are right - I looked at a few in PSA holders and they do not compare. This may be a one step process - just getting them into updated SGC holders. image

Wow. Those are really nice. I think I would just leave them in the SGC holders. For some types of cards, they just do look a bit classier with that black border.

As a cosmetic reference, here is an example of the same card being housed in different holders. You can decide which looks better.

I was going to go and take all my HOF 50/51 Bowman ( including Mantle and Mays) BB and 50 Bowman FB in hopes of getting some if not all them graded

Well maybe I can look at other 50/51 cards at the show to at least get an idea of what grades they are

SGC does not automatically cross cards in old holders to new ones. I think they review the card first.

    definately the PSA, great example.....

when i look at the sgc, i see for 4 "corner frames"..they stick out too much visually and take away from the appeal of the card.....
  • Wondo - go for the new SGC holder. The cards will look sharp as hell
