1975 Topps FB rack- LIVE RIP!!!

Hello,
For those of you that don't know, I recently bought a case fresh 1975 Topps FB rack box from Steve Hart at the BBCExchange, and I'm selling some packs off to board members. Our friend (David) LDfberg bought one and his results were disappointing in terms of star cards, so I decided to crack one pack and we would be co-owners of the cards inside. Here's the thread where this all took place: THREAD

I figured since we all love live rips, I'd share the results here and in the Set Registry forum.

Here's the pack I picked:

I went with this one because of the miscut card showing (top center) for two reasons: 1) I wouldn't feel right sending this pack out to someone who paid full price, and 2) I wanted to know if the centering was indicative of the cards inside. Here goes......

ps- The real question is, did Dan Dierdorf start Tenacious D during or after his NFL career?

Sorry about the blank post but I would take any steelers off your hands.

And there you have it. Two nice RCs, and a major card of one of the best QBs of all time. I think the Bleier is a 9, and the Theismann and Staubach are 8s. I think there are at least 5 or 6 other 9s, and hopefully a 10 somewhere in there. We'll see. That was fun.

If anybody else is interested, I have 8 racks left at $125 each plus $3 shipping. If you won't do it for yourself, do it for me. Please. The temptation is overbearing.

Ahman, could be- I've seen worse 10s. However, the card is on a very slight tilt, and may be a few points oc T/B, but I think it's an easy 9.

gosteelers- I think May's chops recorded 5.5 sacks by themselves in 1974.

    lee,
looks like this pack is very similar to what i yielded as far as condition so the consistency is there. looks like maybe a handful of 9s and hopefully a 10 or two. image

nice staubach and bleier as well as a few others. have you heard of a fouts or swann pull yet?

looks like you also had a similar run with the same cards in my rack with the wehrli, pearson, bragg and humphrey.

    Thanks,

    David (LD_Ferg)

It seems like maybe they do go in runs, but only 4 or 5 cards (otherwise, you would've pulled a Bleier). It's not like 87 Topps BB racks where you can tell exactly what's in the pack based on the cards on top. The only racks I know about are yours and mine, so I haven't heard about a Swann or Fouts.

Also, I was curious to know if PSA will grade the red insert on the top of the rack. The one I just opened looks perfect except for the punched hole.

Anyway, looks like we did pretty good, especially if the Bleier gets a 9 or better.

Nice group of cards. Do you think PSA with hit the Bleier with a pd for the snow?
  • CDsNutsCDsNuts Posts: 10,092
There is a little snow on the card, but most of what you see is dust in my scanner (look around the card). I think it will likely pull a straight 9.

Lee, I haven't followed this all that closely, but that sounds like a nice thing you did for ldferg - and, thanks for sharing the results of this rip. I love the 1975 football set - and that Bleier looks sweet! Hope you pull a Fouts or Swann thats just as nice!

anybody know if the the miscuts in the pack are next to each other on the same uncut sheet?? maybe the rack selection is straight from the sheets?

Wow - this was a lot of fun to watch!

I think the Roger and Joe cards look great. I agree - you should get 8s.

I see some 9s and possbible 10s! Of course I'm guessing from a scan.

But the Culp and May cards look really sweet - possible 10s?

Wow, I had forgot all about M. Morris and his drug busting problems!

And, BTW, that's a really generous thing you're doing with Dave.

It's things like your gesture that keeps me coming back each and every day.

    Hey stone and ctsoxfan,
I know what it's like to make a big unopened purchase (anything over $100 is a lot to me) and not pull one decent star. I just figured if I busted a pack and shared the cards with David, it would take a little of the sting out of his pack. Even though he didn't complain once about his results, I'm pretty sure he knows he could've done a lot better. Good karma can go a long way, and it seems to have kicked in here. Now if only PSA will cooperate......

i'm pulling for psa karma as well. and if i haven't said so already "Lee, thanks for the nice gesture on the 2nd rack". like stone said, it's things like this that keeps me coming back here as well. i've never met any of you guys but some of you make it feel like home. image

i'll be glad to help on grading fees. if you want, just send me the cards you want to grade and i'll include them with my next sub (sending one this week and next week). you cracked the pack, i'll foot the grades.

    Thanks,

    David (LD_Ferg)

  • You thanked me earlier in a PM, so no further thanks is necessary. As for the grading, I'm saving up to get to 100 cards so I can make a bulk submission. Maybe I could send them to you and we combine?

I had planned on paying the grading fees and just subtracting them from the net after sales, then splitting what's left.

no problem. if you want to bulk one this week, send me what you've got and i'll make up the remainder for a 100 card sub.

I have 7 racks left. I just sold two on ebay at $125, so the rest will probably go up over the next week. Last chance for board members. I will not be undersold!! Everything must go!!!
