NEWPS: Brazilians

Picked-up a couple Brazilian pieces today - common coins, but neat color on the 2000 Reis and I like how you can see the outline of Carolus IV's face on the 960 piece stamped over 8 Reales.

Hey, now - I said "perhaps" image

Thanks for the comments, guys! I like the look of the 2000 Reis a lot. It's the kind of patina I like on my coins.

    Love those 960 overstrikes.

Giveaway? Pah! I might buy that 960 if the price is right. I am currently discussing the purchase of several of MrEureka's hoard of Portuguese 40-reis pieces from the same era, so it looks like I might be doing some Portuguese and/or Brazilian travel (sadly, just numismatically, not literally).

Nice color on the 2000-reis. I had some really nice prooflike AU 500-reis piece of the similar type- they really looked like proofs. Unfortunately, they were all cleaned. It is refreshing to see an original one.

Nice color on the 2000 reis, and not so common in that condition without problems. I'd call it AU55. image

Interesting color on the 960, too, and what looks like a fairly strong strike.

The color on the 960 is a challenge for me - it's definitely more colorfull, but I can't seem to capture it without having the light directly on the coin, which creates a glare. I'll try to experiment with different lighting options tonight.

I also have some nice early-19th century pieces coming this week. Can't wait to shoot those image One is a cast 8 Reale piece with a Morelos counterstamp (which, I hope, is a real piece - I would have to examine the counterstamp closely) and another is a crude 1811 Zacatecas 8 Reales from Civitas (plus I still haven't received that Peruvian 8 Reales pictured in my giveaway thread).

So, more pictures and some commentaries will follow (hopefully shortly).
