Poll Vote for group BASKETBALL Wax rip Make your vote count Poll clooses at noon 2/17

Hey guys Im working with 80sjunkie to put together a basketball rip. We would get the boxes from baseball card exchange. And 80sjunkie will be handling the payments and ordering the boxes and shipping for us. I worked with 80s j to come up with these three options from the suggestions people made on the suggestion thread here are 3 options I think we as a group can decide on one that everyone would be happy with.

We would vote as a group and the poll with the most votes we will start a signup thread. I took into account what everyone asked about and these seem to be something that we as a group can decide on that would bring the most bang for the buck and fun as a group.

Remeber dont just vote add your comments to the thread and let us know if you would want in so we can get an idea if we will have enough people to pull it off.

prices posted on each option does not include shipping and paypal fees we will finalize the price when we decide on a option

Can we not add a '77/'78 box to the cheapest option and end up less than $100?

  • I checked the big 3 arny bbce dacw and bbckid none of them have a 77/78 box not even packs. That must be a tough year or very dried up already. Steve at bbce told me he hasnt had any 77/78 in a very long time.

I like all 3 option but the 65 one i could do a couple of lots of that and still have 10 nice packs to open for a nice price.

I have been looking for a 77/78 wax box for a while. It would have been nice to add that box in to the rip but as it is I would be happy with either the first or third option (I voted for the first). Count me in regardless.

I said it before and I'll say it again- 1980-81 Topps is a really, really bad product to rip at $40/pack. Only one or two people will get their money's worth out of that box as the other cards are fairly worthless. Look on ebay and see what you can buy a PSA 8 Magic or Bird RC for. I only got a handful of 9's, no 10's, and a PSA 8 quality Bird/Magic/Dr. J out of a very clean box. I voted for the $65 option.

I agree. 2 lots would only be $20.00 more than option 1 or 2.

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

  • Looks like I"m the first person to vote for option 2. I really liked those 2nd and 3rd year Fleer cards. Unfortunately as a kid I got a lot more of those than I did of the 86/87 Fleer.

Im not much of a basketball collector, what rookies are in each year? That would help me decide to rip or not.

I voted for #3 and will take 2 lots if that is the one we go with. As much as I would like to open a 80/81 pack, it sounds like it's not worth the extra $40.

  • I voted for option #3 because I think it's cheap enough to entice alot of us to get in on it and get it going. But I'll probably do any option you all decide. I don't know how or if it could factor in, but I have an outstanding 80-81 box that i paid $1200 for and would love to sell for that just to pay off a bunch of vintage football wax that I have recently been buying. But I know that there is a big difference between buying from BBCE and most anyone else. It always breaks my heart to find out about someone buying already opened & resealed wax.

And as an aside- About 1 yr ago I bought 10 GAI 7.5 86-87 fleer bkb packs from Steve Hart as an investment. After many a night of pondering, we finally opened one but got only a minor star and commons. However, They were super fresh and very nicely centered. After turning a $150 pack into about $20 of would be hi-grade commons, I have been selling them off pack by pack. Wouldn't you know it- the last 2 packs have turned out to be little goldmines. One buyer pulled a Jordan which he thinks will at least grade 8 if not higher, plus more major stars too - he was estactic. The next buyer also loved his pack and gave me totally glowing feedback so he must have pulled some awesome cards too. I even cautioned him that he might want to leave it alone as an investment, but he ripped away! Good for him! I hope he tells me what he got.

I love it when you guys put these vintage buys together- thanks to everybody that participates and especially those who do the brunt of the work THANKS!!!!

A vote for option #3 here. It looks like option #3 has enough interest with several wanting to buy two or more lots.
(Secretly hoping option #1 wins so I can kick this pack ripping habit I have developed from reading this forum.)
