OT: Snow...

Sucks.

For the first time in 28 years, The University of Illinois has cancelled classes.

We've only gotten 6 inches of snow thus far, so you might wonder why the big deal? The 10 inches+ additional we're expecting throughout the day might seem a little problematic. Blizzard warning is on until midnight TOMORROW night.

No, the problem is the 20-45 mph winds that are turning this into major suckage.

Instead of just staying warm in bed, after I saw the snow plow pile about 2 feet of snow into the end of my driveway, I made the mistake of thinking I could run my car up and down the driveway a few times to make tracks. Of course I didn't plan on getting stuck at the top of the driveway with no way to move the car forward *OR* backward. 30 minutes later after several bouts with the snow shovel and several attempts to get the car moving, I finally did manage to back down the driveway, across the circle, and get a good running start to get up the driveway and into the garage. Of course by then the wind had already started a nice snow drift inside my garage.

Garage door shut. Vehicle inside. Me inside. Eff this. I'll live on pizza delivery (assuming they can get out) or cat food until the sh*t melts.

Don't know about you, but that didn't sound like a good idea to me when I read it image.

University of Toledo has canceled classes from 12:30pm today until 11:30am tomorrow. Last year there were a few times they really should have canceled but they didn't. Our new president may actually have a brain.

Of course class gets canceled on a day I DON'T have any class at all. At least I get to miss my 8am class tomorrow. image

Yeah I'm getting weary of snow already. Yesterday the new building they had just spent the past month framing in front of ours collapsed...lol...not going to hire that builder for a project.

  • We had 2cm of snow about 5 days ago which lasted until lunchtime. Airports were closed, trains cancelled and delayed and 2/3 of the schools were closed for the dayimage

We currently have about 10" on the ground and are expecting to get 8-10" more by tomorrow night. I doubt the schools will be closed.

Is that Buffalo? I hope I90 clears-up by this weekend - driving to Pittsburgh from Toronto.

    Yes, northern suburb of Buffalo.

I-190 should be clear by the weekend. But don't quote me on that.

    El Nino anyone?

Ice is no fun, especially in traffic. Nothing spectacular yet, but here are some pics of the storm passing through Ohio.

Not sure if it's global warming or not, BUT...I live in the northwest portion of Montana. In a small valley in the Rocky Mountains. We've always had snowy, cold, frigid winters. Until '98. This year we've had our biggest snow fall since, but for the most part it's been relatively mild for us. I've notice a lot of differences in the past 10 years. I felt my first earthquake (cracked my darn wall), we've had terrible winds 60mph+ that took the shingles off my roof (woohoo, another home repair), and there's been a lot more rain and ice instead of snow (did someone say home repairs? cuz now I have a flood in my front yard). Now for some that may not seem like a big change, but for someone who was born and raised here, there definitely has been something going on with our weather. (eerie music playing in the background)

It's been unseasonably warm here as well. Global warming won't caused a 10+ degree difference in one year. El Nino on the other hand will and does.

Here on the frozen tundra we haven't seen the positive side of 32F/0C all month. Not even close.

The MN weather moved here with me. We have had snow nearly every week and very cold temperatures this winter. Very un-Colorado-like.

Algore says when it's hot, that's global warming. And when it's cold like this winter, he says that's global warming. Isn't that nice?

I know how you feel. Had to take the wife to AND from work at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston (where it so boring that it makes UIUC (University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign) very, very lively). image It was sleeting this morning but this afternoon, as you already know, image hit the fan. Can't wait for the warm weather to arrive. image

This winter has been a typical El Nino winter - less than 12" of snow so far. Last El Nino winter we did not have a 3"+ snowfall all winter. Still waiting for our first 3"+ snowfall this winter.

I've noticed that the summers in NE Ohio are warmer then they used to be.
During the late 60's I remember that if the temperature went over 80, that
was considered HOT. This past summer the temperature stayed in the 50s to
60s until the first week of June, then it went to 95 degrees plus for a week.
Miserable. Too weird for me. The upper Michigan peninsula is starting to look
    nicer by the day...

  • Here in the UK we have just had the 2nd warmest January since 16 something. Apart from a couple of cold snaps -6 deg C its been in the low teens, that's 10 deg above average. Plenty of rain though after last summers drought.
