10,000 1974 Topps Baseball Cards (Vending) For Sale

That’s right, 10,000 baseball cards (Probably closer to 10,500) from 1974. All from a HUGE vending find. The scans will show many Hall of Famers, but for selling purposes, I’m going to say the load includes commons, team cards, semi-stars, etc.. But there are many Hall of Famers included. The load is about 90% percent nrmt or better. Many cards would grade higher, but centering is a bear. As you can see by the scans, there are TONS of NRMT/MT cards and some mint.

The cards in the scans are ones from this load and all are included. I scanned the cards shown with the scanner lid up, so some cards appear mis-cut, but they aren’t. Its actually that crisp vending bow you find with many cards that come from vending that’s giving the cards a mis-cut appearance.

Probably a once and a life time deal and I’m asking $7,500 for the load, but will consider offers in the ballpark of what I’m asking.

If in the Anaheim Hills, CA area, I would consider setting up a time and place the lot can be viewed. I will field questions and all inquiry’s can be emailed to jjtmmw@aol.com. My ebay ID is MKWSportscards. I’ll pay shipping and will only accept payment by check or money order. All sales will be final.

Thanks,
Mark Wingard

  • Tremendous find Mark. The cards look great. Were these cards from a dealer or collector? Also, are the cards sorted?

  • Frank,

Here's the story (the short or in a nutshell version). About 2-1/2 years ago I came across a hugh lot of cards, from 1966-1975. Roughly 120,000 cards. Most Hall of Famers were pulled, but the commons were virtually left untouched and sat in storage for close to 25 years. A guy was actually trying to sell this entire collection/find on ebay. I saw his auctions and noticed he lived 20 miles from me. All his auctions closed with no bids (he had set his opening bid rather high and only showed photos of the 3200 count boxes. No photos or scans of any cards) so I contacted him and we set up a time I could go by and view them. When I got there I new this was the Mother Load. We went back and forth for 6 months before we closed the deal. I brought in a partner, but bought him out a year later. For the first year, my partner and I had been selling these cards from the find. I would say that close to 400 1972 PSA 10 have been graded from this find. I bought a bunch of these to last years National, mainly 1972, 73 and 75's and they sold like hotcakes. A few board members from here bought many a card (Gemint, Ron Burgundy, to name a few).

The 1974's were gone through for 10's and sure shot 9's during the first year. When I bought my partner out, I put the cards in storage (5 / 3200 boxes) and basically let them sit. I did let an ex-board member go through one of the boxes and he pulled some Hall of Famers and League Leaders cards. I recently brought the cards home and decided to move them as is if all possible. I'm just not a fan of the 74's to be honest. Still have lots of 72's, 73's and 75's to get graded and will keep me busy enough.

The cards came from a guy that works at a state college and would post on the bulletin board he was looking for cards, coins, beanie Babies, etc. He said that a girl approached him when her father died and said she had some cards she wanted to get rid of..................and that was the beginning

  • Great story Mark. 72- 76 baseball hold a special place for me. Those were my main collecting years as a kid. I'm actaully building the sets on the Registry, but am more than happy buying PSA 8's. When I was a kid growing up in the Bronx, my good friend Andrew Toms family owned a deli (Coincidentally it was the only Asian/Italian deli the Bronx). Every morning on the way to school Andrew would take a few cello or rack packs from the store. We would open them up and during lunch/recess he would provide the cards for flipping and matching games. I was the schools expert flipper and our deal was whatever I won, we would split. By the end of the year we had accumulated thousands of cards.
Seeing your scans brought me back to those carefree days of baseball, running through open fire hydrants, and day dreaming about Toni Catalano (she developed early)image
Good luck with selling the cards. If I had the coin I would be all over those cards. They look greatimage
