Irritated with PSA right now..

I just received my grades on a recent submission that included the nicest '78 Eddie Murray that I've ever seen. I have an 8 and even a 9 in my collection which I carefully compared it to before submitting it. Expecting to receive a minimum grade of 8, I was emailed today that the card received a 6!!!

I know '78 topps baseball cards and have seen thousands of them, and this card is no 6!!! Has anyone ever received their cards only to find the emailed grade to be different from the actual grade received?

It almost makes me lose faith in PSA!!

It couldn't be the dreaded back paper wrinkle..........that would have gotten you a 5. When I receive an unexpected 6, it's usually the back of the card. Recheck, the back corners and centering.

OR PSA beat you up on this one........................crack/resubmit if above doesn't convince you of the 6.

I should have the card back either today or tomorrow and will provide a scan. I had carefully looked this card over both front and back, and actually had someone else experienced with graded cards do the same.

PSA is always in the bad spot. Everyone is mad if they think the card is undergraded so they complain. But they never complain if a card comes back over graded. Its almost like our commuter trains in Chicago. People complain when they are late but never say a word when they tend to be on time >90% of the time.

check around the edges for any type of bend. i had an 84d tony gwynn that looked GEM and i received a 6. i popped it from the slab and along the lower border i noticed the light refract a bend in the card...ouch. sorry to hear about your disappointment.

Sorry about your dissappointment but it definitely has to have some sort of light wrinkle on the surface.Very common on 78s and 77s for that matter. You have a few options...crack it and check under multiple angles of light and if you dont see anything resubmit. Its almost if you look hard enough on any card you can find some type of factory blemish. Secondly you could submit it to GAI and it would probably come back an 8.5 as they dont seem to care about wrinkles and centering, third choice is to crack it and put it raw in your set.
The graders are just doing their job.Hope this helps.

I wouldn't necessarily say that the graders are doing there jobs. I have sent back my last three submissions and all of them came back with better grades. My first had a 25% bump up in grades. My last two had 15% bumps. PSA is very inconsistent.

If I was a rookie card collector with no experience in 78's that would be one thing, but I do only submit cards that I'm confident will receive an 8 or better and only miss to the downside by one on rare occasion. I've even went as far as to have TJ Schwartz look at my stuff before submitting. I guess if I'm that bothered, I'll crack it and re-submit even though it's such a hassle.

I'd crack it out an re-submit it, but check it over very carefully just had a tallboy submission come back was sure everything I was sending in was 7 or better hopefully a few 9's and a 10 or two, got back 1 nine, 12 eights , 7- sevens, three - sixes, 2- fives, 1 -four ouch on the last one. got looking at them and will resubmit 1-8's 1-7's 1-6's there was three I totally missed 2 PSA 5's had light almost invisible wrinkles both on the back the PSA 4 a crease that blended in perfect with the color of the card.
Here is the 4 Had a 78 Rose I thought at best was a 9 came back a 10 go figure LUCK of the draw!!!!
