Remember 1981 Topps 5x7 National Set?? Here's pics!

In the first year of my second incarnation of card-collecting, I sent away for three sets of these Topps 5x7 photos. They came in three series:

I was never good about remembering to send away for anything.
I did collect some bazooka wrappers and ordered a pocket knife once.
Those look a lot like the 80T Photo "superstar" cards tho.
They came loose in a box for 15 cents a shot.

The 80 set is 60 strong - and having the entire run autographed would be kinda cool - don't ya think?

As send-aways, this was the complete 1981 set. They must have been listed on a wax wrapper or on a wax box. I've pictured the complete 3-series set of 15 cards...
As an aside, the 1980 set has both white and gray backs. The gray back cards were sold individually (Yes, you could pick the player you wanted to buy right out of the box). The white backs were available in a pack, or as complete sets through dealer orders. The sets came in plain yellow mailing envelopes and I don't remember what the minimum dealer order was but they were quite hot at the time.

They may have made them available for ordering later, but the original intent was as a companion. It's called the "National" set.

You're correct about this 15-card set being the "National" set. It was "sold in areas not covered by the Home Team sets." The 102-card "Regional" (Home Team) set was sold in specific areas and was also available through the mail as a set. (Source: 3rd Edition SCD BBC Price Guide, 1989.)
Five cards were available only in the National set: GBrett, CCooper, JPalmer, DParker and TSimmons...
