Autographed 1986 Fleer Jordan Rookie

Fleer's 2007 basketball packs will contain the ultimate insert-- autographed Michael Jordan rookie cards.
Upper Deck said Wednesday it had purchased an unannounced quantity of Jordan's 1986-87 Fleer cards and had them signed by the company's long-time client. Upper Deck purchased the Fleer brand name after the latter company's demise.
The set is scheduled to be released in early 2007.
Clearly Upper Deck not only doesn't understand the collectable market cutting up 1 of a kind vintage relics, and selling pieces to be lost forever. Now it's apparent they don't understand the collectable card market either. Truely, Upper Deck has lost their friggin minds. I hope soon they go the way of Fleer and all the other failed companies and fade into the sunset or better stated cesspool. Why dont they let their 3 year old daughters scribble on one of the most important basketball rookie cards instead of paying big bucks for MJ to do it. After they are altered the value will be the same.
Incredible marketing. I would love to sit in this meeting and listen to the geniuses that said, "What a great idea!!!" ABsloute piss poor decision from a company that is suppose to know the business? What total idiot is running that company? The next question is how many idiots will hold their stock till its on the penny market.

the Jordan RC isn't a vintage issue. Modern collectors just don't care as much about condition anymore. The graded card vogue has
come and gone. Autographed rookie cards have been wildly popular. I remember the Willie Mays auto RC's in heritage..Ive never
seen one, but that has to be the best 80 dollar box anyone could ever open.
The unfortunate issue with this is the odds of actually pulling this card is probably a shade worse than winning the lottery. Fleer has
been almost dead and basketball is dead too, UD needs this to try to jump start their company. I think the only really living athlete's
who autograph is still almost unattainable is Jordan. UD used to own all the big ones, but they have lost that, but still have
MJ.
This is a great move for them, lets hope they have bought more than 3!

I completely agree with one of your points, 2D, and completely disagree with another.
1) I disagree that a pristine card is ruined when the guy pictured on the card signs it. If you divorce yourself for a minute from the accepted standards of the hobby you may agree with me that if the world operated on rational precepts an autographed card would be worth more than a non-autographed one, if only because a) The autographed one is scarcer, and b) the autographed cards captures more of the 'essence' (a terrible word choice, I know, but I can't think of anything better at the moment) of the player than the non-auto version. If we didn't have 'The Rules of the Hobby' to guide us I think most of us would prefer the auto card.
2) I agree that it's high time card collectors start assuming some responsibility for what's happened to the modern market (and to the vintage market, as far as the proliferation of trimmed cards and so on). For some reason in this country we like to harp on the suppliers, and NOT the demanders. The drug problem? It's not an epidemic because every kid over 13 years old wants to get high, it's a problem because of those evil Colombians, or those dirty hillbillies making meth in their bathtub. Prostitution? Don't go after the johns, go after the 19 year old girls walking the streets. Baseball cards? Again, blame the card companies-- but don't blame the hordes of collectors who keep this ridiculous machine running by gleefully spending thousands of dollars on boxes and cases that will yield $100 worth of cardboard. If people don't like the way the hobby is headed they should first ask themselves if they've done anything to promote the current madness-- and if they have-- and almost all of us are guilty-- then they should consider changing their behavior.

Did I read that right? Are you saying that you used to have a problem with it, but now that PSA says it's OK you've decided it's OK too?
