I was going through my 1974 set and...

....I noticed that on the Willie McCovey card #250 he was wearing a Padre uniform, but the card says Washington? Were they all printed like that? Strange that I never noticed it before.

BTW, I was wondering as to what you thought this card would grade based on the upper right hand corner? I have no intentions of grading it just curious.

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

Basically, during the 1973-74 off-season, there were rumors that the Padres were going to move to Washington, DC. Topps believed those rumors would hold up and thus made some of the Washington cards like you have. Of course, the plan fell through so Topps had to get out the correct team name as well. Thus, you have both versions.

And as for the card you showed us, seeing as how it's not an expensive card, I would just find a nicer copy on Ebay and upgrade. But that's just me.

FYI.......The Washington versions are harder to come by......perhaps a 1-5 ratio

    Edited to say...although not rare

Thank you for the replies this board is great! I am not actively collecting the 74's so I am in no hurry to update. I am suprised I have the one that is harder to find, my luck is normally the other way around.

    From SMR.

    6 7 8 9
    250 Willie McCovey Washington (HOF) 10 18 40 280

I am a new member, so I do not know how the card would grade. Love the centering.

    Is there a Washington Winfield?
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

The card is pretty nice except for that corner and his eyebrow ring. I was wondering if it would grade a 5 or lower?

I would say the card is a solid 5. There was a time when the Washington McCovey brought some decent money.
