I have an ebay seller hounding me to leave feedback

He has emailed me two times already asking me to leave feedback. Heres the second email from him ;

<< <i>please leave feedback if your not satified with item then please return and i'll refund your money >>

The auction ended on Oct 18 and the card arrived last week sometime with no issues. I always leave everyone feedback. If he would have checked my "feedback left for others" he would have seen that. I dont bother people to leave feedback and I let him no how I felt ;

<< <i>HI, I did receive the card and am happy with it. However it was not right for you to email me two times already asking me to leave feedback. If you checked my feedback history you would have seen that I leave feedback for everyone. So dont worry, I will leave you feedback but if you keep emailing me asking me to, its going to take me longer to do so.
Thanks
Matt >>

Has anyone else had people emailing them to leave feedback?

  • Yeah. I had a guy (I hope 'had' is the correct term) email me 5 or 6 times within a week and a half. I made it a point not to leave feedback solely because of that (well, not solely. It did take him two and a half weeks for him to mail me my item. No, it didn't get lost in the mail. It was postmarked 2 days before I got it).

You should write back and say, "Normally, I make it a point not to leave negative feedback. But, since you've hounded me so much, you must really want it. Here it comes."

That should shut him up. image

  • I find that absolutely obnoxious.

Feedback is not mandatory. It is a privilege, not a right.

I'll leave feedback if and when I want to. Don't hound me about it.

People that are paranoid/aggressive about getting it generally annoy me --- I usually just ignore them.

Ive had it happen many times.

When they email me and ask it usually means they wont get it. I cant tolerate that....ESPECIALLY when you pay same day and they hound you to leave it, yet they wont leave it for you first.

I will NOT leave feedback when asked to.

As a buyer I always leave feedback, but on my time. I don't usually do it right after I get a card, but I wait untill I can do 10-15(or sometimes even 40-50image) at time and just cut and paste "A+++ seller, FAST shipping," or whatever I lift from one of my buyers that week.

I wont leave feedback as a buyer if the seller hasn't left it first. I specifically include a little not when I pay by paypal that says "please be sure to leave feedback, once payment is received"
  • WOW, I always leave feedback the day I get the item. It is polite and a way to show the seller that the item was received and that I like it.

Not to start a war but in the amount of time it took to write an email saying you would do it when you are ready, if you were happy with the item you could have done it right then. I think feedback is required in ALL transactions. You owe it to the ebayer for a good transaction and you owe it to all ebayers on a bad transaction so noone else gets screwed. I always check a users Feedback before buying an item.

  • Feedback is not required. I dont owe the seller anything but my payment. I agree it helps judge the seller. I always leave fb, never ask and hate it when people ask.

The guy left you FB when you paid?

Everyone is happy with the transaction.

    Life's short.

What's the difference? Maybe he's just a nervous type - how many transactions has he?

    I say...

leave him FB and tell him one email is more than enough.

I'm sorry - but there seems to be a bit too much attitude here from many of the responses.

I deal with people every day - I bend over backwards to give good service - if I detect any "attitude" by those I do business with - i.e. - there's not appreciation for my service? They go down the parkway and see someone else.

With all due respect - this is a tempest in a teapot.

edit: I'm in agreement with Munson - the FB system requires participation - it's the only way we can buy with some kind of assuredness.

Sellers that do not leave feedback upon payment get on my nerves, same thing for buyers not leaving feedback when they get the card.

Leaving feedback is not required mandatory is correct, but it is courteous.

More and more, both buyers and sellers are not leaving feedback promptly or "holding it hostage" until they receive feedback. This situation is a good example. Just leave the guy feedback - it is the right thing to do.

    Munson15,
    I appreciate your view.

    Obviously everyone has thier own method and timing when they leave feedback. I dont know if you read my post completely before you replied. I said;

    << <i>
I always leave everyone feedback. If he would have checked my "feedback left for others" he would have seen that. >>

So giving me the feedback lecture is uncalled for. I do fully intend on leaving + feedback for the guy but a seller has no right to email a buyer multiple times in the period of a 10 days asking for feedback. If he checked my feedback history he would have seen that I am a responsible ebay user. What he did is not right at all.

In your original post - I don't see where the guy "lectured" you?

Do you have a copy of the original where he did that?

Now, that's a different story - if you felt lectured - then I - too - would be taken back by that?
    mike

edit: but someone politely emailing someone a couple of times about FB isn't a bad thing if done sincerely.

I will email as a reminder if I as a seller left feedback when payment was received and it has been 30 days and no reposnse form the buyer.

I never said that the seller lectured me. I was saying to Munson15 that I didnt need a feedback lecture.

As I said many times already I intend on leaving this guy feedback but someone surely is not going to pressure me with repeated emails to do so. It is not very courteous of the seller to do that. Justs because someone is impatient or paranoid doesnt mean i have to jump up and do what he wants.

I buy many cards and sit down and leave feedback for them all at once. Thats how I do it.
    Thanks

Sometimes when I get annoyed at people who hound me for feedback [and they have already left me feedback], I leave them positive feedback, but I always make my comments questionable/bizzare:

Positive feedback that reads like this [sometimes you can get inspiration from music lyrics...]:

"With his mouth sewn shut, he still shakes his butt; Cuz he's Hitler & Swayze & Trump & Travolta"

"Ornithorhynchus anatinus - platypus; The platypus can be seen driving a forklift in his habitat of kelp"

"Squeeze me macaroni, slop your face with my bolony"

"I'm gonna get you all sticky with my Bubble Yum"

Often when you leave positive feedback like that to people who are hounding you -- they more often than not tend to stop hounding you.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

Well, sometimes if I've sold something of value and they didn't leave feedback, I'd email and ask if they did indeed get their stuff and that it wasn't damaged or anything, but I never mentioned feedback in any way. Remember, feedback is a privledge, not a right, and should always be treated as such.

  • matt,

I saw that in your post and I do think that one email was enough from that guy.

It is my practice when selling to leave feedback as soon as the payment is received and as a buyer when I receive the goods. That is just me, I do dislike the people who sell me something and then wait till I leave feedback. I always send them an email when I get the package and say I got the package BLANK is great thanks I left you feedback please leave some for me....

    Thats cool.

I emailed him and gave him + feedback for the transaction along with a bunch of other auctions I won recently. While everyone has different methods and timing to leave feedback it all doesnt matter just as long as they do leave feedback. I win alot of auctions and like to wait a bit, then I sit down and leave a bunch of feedbacks.

    Thanks

Indeed, just like it doesn't matter in the end if a sports team won by 1 point/run or 20 points/runs; it counts in your W/L column and in the divisional/playoff race just the same, right?
