about 100. Up from the last few years, but down a bit from 5-7 years ago.
Weather was good in LA, that helped.

35 or so, would have been more if I didn't live on a cul de sac

The number of kids went up for me.

We just renovated our house and added a second floor. Now it's the best looking home in the neighborhood so I suppose everyone wanted a peek.

  • Zero. We live at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac on a street with no kids. Usually we get one or two parties stopping by, but nothing this year.
  • PlayBallPlayBall Posts: 463 ✭✭✭

We only got about 10. It doesn't help that the neighbors on my street turn off their lights and hide in their basements all night. That doesn't give kids much incentive to come down our street. All the action in my town happens in a place called Fischer Woods. It's an upscale development that probably draws about 2000-2500 kids. Giving out candy is basically an assembly line.

We had well over 250. We have a local church that you give $$ to and they buy all the candy. The city blocks off the streets and the kids go nuts. I had a bonfire, the Colts Broncos game on and an open bar for the parents that came up. For some reason I was the most popular house

My wife and I moved a 1/2 mile from where we used to live about a month ago. In our "old" house we had about 20, this year we had close to 300, needless to say we were not prepared and had to go get more candy within the first 20 minutes.

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

When I was a kid, we used to get packs of BB cards from some of the neighbors.

When I was little - I felt cheated - when I got a bit older - I thought it was cool.

Zero--like it has been for 3 of the last 4 years. I have found that the trick is to go ahead and buy some candy--then no one will come and I can snack on the candy myself. That one year in the last 4 when I didn't buy any--sure enough that was the time I had multiple visits.
I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.

200-300. I am in Salem, Massachusetts. Most that come here are under 14, everyone else is up the street about a quarter mile with the other 60,000. We have 40,000 living here and 60,000 to 100,000 on Halloween. Normally the weather is chilly about 30-40 degrees, last 2 years it has been 70 and 65 degrees. It really brings out the crazies.

Back when I was in high school, I helped my parents give out candy - because I was too old to go out myself. Invariably, we'd get "kids" that were 18,19, 20+ years old. And not exactly the types that you'd say "nah, you're too old" to, either image

I had to stop going very early because people thought I was way older than I was due to my height... they would give me nothing and tell me that I shouldn't be trick or treating any more! Guess I can't blame them, with a mask on and all I probably looked like an 18 year old.

  • About 40.

Some little hooligan kicked in the face of my Gene Simmons Jack-O-Lantern.
  • No kids! One reason being, kids are so fat nowadays and they are too lazy to walk up my long driveway. Secondly, I do not give out anything, last thing I need is to aid into the growing obesity epidemic in this country!
  • Wow, I have to admit I'm shocked about how many 0's there are. I was only home for 20 minutes before I had to run out with my own son to take him trick or treating and we had a few come by. This was my son's first "walking" Halloween and he has never had so much fun try to keep up with the "older" kids while dragging his pumpkin bag around. I guess neighborhoods and attitudes are changing about Halloween. I really miss the days of shaving cream, eggs, candy and scaring people...ahhh the good ol' days!
  • We had about 75...and we gave out the good stuff, no fun size at our house this year!!!!

For those of you who did get trick or treaters (we did not), I wonder if anyone here ever thought of using really cheap baseball card wax packs (like late 80s/early 90s Topps, Donruss and such) as the treats? I think that would've been really clever and creative! And who knows, it might get a few new collectors into the fold. image

A kid kicked the face of a pumkin?--that's not cool at all. If I ever had a kid and he did that, his halloween would stop there and an apology the next day to the home owners.

Giving out cards for Halloween....not so many collectors out there....its too targeted of an audience. At least candy and quarters can be used.

How old is too old to trick or treat? If I saw teenagers at my door front, I would welcome them and give them candy---I have no problem with that.

No one showed up because I live in an apartment in the LA area. Of course, I went to the parade on Santa Monica Blvd where there were a half million people. It was awesome and people get really creative with their costumes. Pirates were big this year (maybe because of the Pirates of the Carribean movie).

Figures. image Why do kids these days have to have these fads as their "hobby" when they could be in sports cards, a time honored tradition for many, many generations of boys and girls for over 120 years? I guess you've got the trading card companies and their $2 minimum packs with 10 cards or less to thank for that.image How can kids today get into the sports card hobby when packs are so much more expensive than they were even 12 years ago? Sometimes I wish it was 1994 in the hobby again; IMO that year they had just the right balance of cheap/middle/expensive product and while you had a pretty good selection, it wasn't an overwhelming selection.

    Am I wrong?
