Overall very happy. This first batch was more a benchmark for me as well, to see how cards graded so I can do a better job screening them myself in the future.
My question is, what do other members submitting cards on their own use as a criteria to achieve the best possible grades. Specificially, what is the best way to determine centering, other then eye-balling it? Also, does PSA grade more recent issues scricter than older ones?

For edges and corners, make sure you have a 10X loupe. If you don't already own one, you will be amazed at how much more you can see under magnification. This is what the PSA graders use, so you're handicapping yourself if you don't use one yourself.
Finally, make sure you hold the card at an angle to the light so you can make sure to spot any tough-to-see surface wrinkles or creases that would automatically knock a potential 10 down to a 5.

<< <i>Where is a good place to get a 10x loupe? If anyone has one I would give you some $$ or cards for it. Do you use the loupe to look at edges and surface? I submitted a while back with the naked eye and recieve moslty 9s and 10s....but there were some 8s in there that I obviously missed something on. >>
You can get a quality lighted one on Ebay for about 9$ delivered.
<< <i>Welcome to the CU boards rj. You did far better than I did on your first submission, congrats! That '87 Gretzky is one of my all time favourite cards. >>
I agree, good job!
I got a 5 on my first sub
