Let's say it was pine tar. However, it was brushed away during the first inning when an ump pointed it out as soon as it was visible. It probably was never used because it was caught early.
Rogers pitched the rest of the game "clean." At worst, it was attempted cheating. But he pitched the actual game fair and square.
It could very well have been dirt, so let us not jump to conclusions. Things get very heated in the World Series and attention is on every detail of the game. He pitched well before in his career and this is his third consecutive stellar performance. It shouldn't surprise anyone that he can perform well on his own merit.

Actually Rogers was interviewed and said that HE noticed some dirt on his hand after the first inning so he decided to wash it off. He said that the umpires never mentioned anything to him about it.
Too bad the Dodgers didn't make it to the Series...
Whahahaaahhahaaaaaa...sour grapes randyMoss84? Better luck next year.
Boy Rogers sure did suck for the other 7 innings he destroyed the Cards batters without the so called smudge.
Just another blown out of proportion media blitz and fodder for the talk radio circuit. Nothing appeared on the ball, it wasn't doctored and the situation was corrected after it was identified.
It didn't affect the pitches, the umps didn't complain, and not one thing was mentioned the entire season about anything of this nature.
Here's an idea, how about concentrate on actually hitting the ball rather then developing rationale for why you couldn't.
Cardinals fans...how about some more cheese with your whine....
