Second Chance Offer Etiquette

I have for the 1st time received a 2nd chance offer. I told the seller I am wiling to pay what my bid would have been had the reneger not bid, rather than my actual max bid. Is that OK, or did I break some Ebay rule? The difference is about $200.

    when the seller sends the offer out they don't have a choice for the amount of the offer. i'd take a close look at the auction and see who the 'winning' bidder was. maybe it was their shill who accidently won the auction.

    I wondered about a shill. Both the seller and the buyer have a lot of feedback, and the bidding was already fairly high. My guess is that it was not a shill, but you never know. The other day someone had a PSA 8 60 Mantle, and a 0 feedback pushed it up. I checked the feedback, and the same 0 bidder had bid on several of his auctions. I considered that to be an obvious shilling situation.

    You're well within your rights to set the limit as to what you want to pay. Had the other person not bid..the card would have been yours anyways.
    Now, if the seller has a duplicate card in the same condition or grade...they should tell you that..and offer to send another scan.

    Make sure the 2nd chance offer comes thru ebay and not thru a spoof or an email. I bid on a front end loader a couple weeks ago, while my friend who wanted it was drag racing. He won the bid later after I got outbid. The day after he picked it up I got a 2nd chance offer to buy it.

    Just make sure it's coming thru ebay.
