1958 TOPPS MICKEY MANTLE #150 PSA 8 OR CONVERT TO BVG? YOUR THOUGHTS?

Hello! I am a small time collector. (Due to financial situations, not ashamed to admit it) I sold what few cards I owned to pool the money to purchase the best Mantle I could with a blend of year and best grade I could get. The best I could get with my funds is a 1958 Topps Mantle #150 PSA 8. It is now the only card I own, and I want to make the best with it. I am aware that for vintage, modern football, and modern baseball that BGS/BVG has higher value on Ebay. But vintage baseball PSA has higher value. Your thoughts on two questions: 1) Why? 2) If PSA 8 did the .5 grade I believe mine would be a PSA 8.5. It's so close to a PSA 9, I agree with the seller I bought it from, it might be worth a shot at regrade. I also think it could be a BVG 8.5. What should I do? Who should regrade it, PSA or BVG? It really is somewhere between a 8.5 and a 9. I know the odds of it going up a grade are next to none, but it sure is close/borderline. I appreciate all thoughts.

I was not aware of this. I have not seen any vintage FB and only a few vintage baseball BVG cards on ebay. The same grade BVG baseball cards went for less than the PSA ones. A half grade higher BVG card might go for more than a PSA one which is lesser in grade, but not always. I would guess football would be similar.
The very nice, probably a true high-end PSA 8, 1958 Mantle you show is vintage, a PSA 8 will go for more than an 8 in any other holder.
If you plan on keeping the card there should be no need to get it re-slabbed, by PSA or any company. If you really want to get maximum selling value for it, then perhaps you might consider re-grading, although a high-end PSA 8 would still be quite pricey.
If you are really positive it merits at least an extra half grade and want it shown on the slab, you have several choices. Send to PSA for re-grade, maybe a 9 will be had. Send it to SGC or GAI, perhaps a half or full grade bump will happen, and they are probably a bit more popular with vintage collectors than BVG. Of course you could send it to Beckett.
Regardless, if you choose to get it re-graded, do NOT crack it out of the PSA slab. Send it as is, to whomever with a minimum grade requirement. You can call any of the companies and find out the specific details. This will cost a bit, but should be the best way to go.
Best of luck with the card and do let us know what you decide.

Keep this card out of a BVG coffin! (Mantle and BVG? No way!)...
Very nice!

Also, another reason to not put that in a BVG holder is that they are well known to grade sheet cut cards. Whenever a gorgeous 1971 Topps is sitting in a BVG 9 holder, most people (at least the ones on these boards) assumes it's sheet cut. 1958 is a little different than 1971 but you can see how the doubts from people who know better, would hurt the value of the card.
