Your Favorite WS

I'm kind of curious as to what everyone's favorite WS is that does NOT involve a) your favorite team, or b) your most hated team. Just a series that you really enjoyed watching and didn't have any emotional stake in.

Examples:

1) My 'best' WS ever was 1982, but I'm not counting it because the Cards were my favorite team.
2) My second favorite was probably 2001, but again I'm not counting that because the Yankees are my most hated MLB team (they're actually neck and neck with the Red Sox, but they beat them by a nose).

Given this, I'm going with 1991. Just a fantastic series that gave us everything we demand from the fall classic.

Of course 1986 would be my absolute answer, but if I can't count that one, I'd have to say the 1997 Marlins win, with future Met Al Leiter and ex-Met Bobby Bonilla playing key roles, that was a special one for them and it went down to the very end. A close second place would be the 1991 Series when Jack Morris threw his 10-inning shutout to beat the Braves in Game 7.

Growing up being more of an Expos fan and not really caring about anything else, something that sticks in my mind to this day is where I was, what I was doing and how I felt when Gibson hit that homer in game 1 of Denis Eckersley in 1988. I still remember looking at my dad and telling him we just watched history. I can't remember anything about the rest of the games except Hershiser was amazing, but how did that Dogers team beat the A's? It will always be my favorite, although obviously 94 'might' have been.

1997. I forgot about that one, and it definitely ranks in my top 5. My heart about jumped up in my throat when Renteria hit that single.

For me it had to be 1991 Braves vs. Twins. Multiple one-run games, multiple extra-inning games, and a Game 7 that went into extra innings made it the most exciting World Series I've ever seen. Seeing two teams that both finished in the cellar the previous season also added to the excitement.

The '91 Series as mentioned by others was great. The 2000 Series, although it does involve my beloved yankees, was one of the best Series I ever saw. People forget how close those games were, the fact Yankees won 4-1 does not tell the story- at all. However, the W.S. that had me on the edge of my seat and provided me with more memorable moments than any others was without question 2001. Of course being a yankees fan I would change the outcome!

Even though we got swept, last year was my personal best. Going to every game in the playoffs, breaking my hand in celebration of winning the NL, the 18-inning Chris Burke HR, getting absolutely wasted at the outfield bar, watching away games at the BUS...

Those were memories that will last a life-time

Second runners up, 2004 in Boston and experiencing Fenway for the first time / 1985 World Series in KC (even though I was too young to really appreciate it).

Edited to add - Ooops, I didn't follow the directions. Flip-flop my statement then image

1996. The way that Atlanta came out of the gates in Game 1, they were already favorites coming into the game and the shalacking the Yankees took only furthered entrenched the underdog status. Game 1s score 12-1 Atlanta. Game 2, the Yankees didn't get beat around; but still lost convincingly 4-0. At this point, most casual fans and analysts said "The Series is over". Both of the losses were in the Bronx as well. The Yankees then ran off 3 consecutive wins at Fulton stadium(5-2, 8-6, and 1-0). The Yankees came back to the Bronx and won a thriller 3-2. Somehow, someway the Yankees won even while batting 40 points less than the Braves as well as losing the pitching battle ERA 3.93 to 2.33. My favorite, most memorable World Series win.

Definately 2006--especially Game 6, when rookie pitcher Andrew Miller got an unexpected start, and went on to pitch a perfect game and clinch the series for the Tigers. A baseball classic!

    Seen on film
1905; John McGraw managing against Connie Mack, Christy Mathewson hurls THREE shoutouts against the A's, Chief Bender blanks the Giants in one game, Eddie Plank loses to Iron-man McGinnty 2-1 in another game.

    Seen live
1975; Hard to pick a better one, superstars going back and forth, sooooo close, both teams had 3.88 ERAs and Boston actually outscored the Reds 30 to 29.

    1993 - Joe Carter

I had just started watching baseball with some sort of interest (I was 12), and have been hooked ever since.

2004 was good too - I was in college at Central Missouri where half the students are from KC and the other half from St Louis. Nothing made me feel better than laughing at all of those arrogant priks when they got swept. After putting up with their Rams crap for 4 years it was nice to have something to smile about.
