Tobacco Seabiscuit Card?

Does anyone know if any of the old English (Players, Wills, etc.) tobacco card sets featuring race horses or jockeys have Seabiscuit in them? If so, what year and who manufactured it?

I've been crawling through the pop report hoping to hit upon something but it's really time consuming and hasn't shown any results. Plus, there are many, many sets that still haven't had an example graded by PSA yet so it's not even definitive.

Thanks for any help. image

Anything is possible but considering there was no TV back then when Seabiscuit ran in the 1930s and he was strictly an American horse, I doubt many in England would have been that familiar with the horse and therefore unlikely to be featured on a tobacco card there. I would have to believe the English tobacco cards would have featured English and European horses, those who the "punters" were familiar with.
  • Stevek,

I think you're forgetting that back then people not only read but relied upon newspapers. Quite different than today. image

The English tobacco cards featured many American celebrities with their sets. I'm thinking there has to be one. Okay, correction: I'm hoping. image

I hear ya. I just think it is a big stretch from American celebrities to a race horse from America that only raced in American races. I doubt very much if Seabiscuit ever got that much, if any, press in England. I doubt if even a Secretariat ever got much press in England except for when he won the Kentucky Derby and the Triple Crown.

But hey in any event...best of luck in finding the card...hopefully there were some printed. Hope you post a scan here if you find it.

The sets i have seen mostly have race horses from the teens and earlier. The 30's were mostly jockey sets. I have not seen any for Seabisquit to date.

    hopefully this helps you
  • Carew,

I'm drunk and tired. I clicked on the link and it looks like that page will be an enormous help to me (be it this endeavor or the next) and so I thank you. I probably won't be able to check it out until Monday but I truly thank you for bringing it to my attention. Anything I can do to help you (I currently own NO Carew cards image) just let me know. Thanks again.

  • Arthur,
Just curious why you are looking for a seabiscuit card? I also would love to find one. Below is a picture of Charles howard's 1932 Murphy bodied Buick that my company restored in 2004

I got on half-way through Season 2 and worked all the way into Season 4. Best time of my life.
