Forgery

I have known for some time about fake FF whiteouts but heres a example of one admitting it, posted on the comments section of our FF article. I removed the method (though not a secret) to prevent more forgeries. Sad.

WOW!!! I also began collecting in the late 80's- I remember reading the USA today article ; also remember the Al Leiter before that? I also have sought the "white-out" but during that age period, and being somewhat resourceful, I decided to "make" a few by placing electrical tape on the area surrounding the Black Box, then use ----------------------- on a card -----------------. I would than easily remove tha tape and chuckle; this fooled several, but nothing tops my friends trading a reprinted Steve Carlton rookie (he used my erasing technique on "reprint") for a complete 1984 Donruss set. We weren't very good kids but I can't but laugh to myself.
BTW, I used to reseal wax packs with candle wax, then re-shrinkwrap the "starless" boxes with saran wrap and my sister's high-powered hair dryer- I was a real F@#K FACE back then. It should come as no surprise I'm now a felon in 2 states! In the end I got what I deserved.

As much as I admire your passion for the variations of this card - I know of very few fellow collectors who have ever bought a Bill Ripken whiteout at all...
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
  • Cool, less competition image I guess its just different circles we travel in. I personally know 5 people who have one (slabbed) and have followed 20+ auctions on them. Though not huge numbers. One guy bought 20+ from a guy and they were all fake. That seller kept selling them and I kept notifying bidders, ebay ect, and finally he stopped. Just a slow day in my head and I couldnt think of much else to talk about. Curious how many have bought ones that were later found to be fake. Hopefully Im not the only one!!
