purchased 1000 pristine '59 & '60 topps....

Hello, I am new to the forum and recently returned to the collecting world after 20 years away from it. I still own my entire childhood collection numbering well over 100,000 cards. I was luck enough to purchase an amazing collection of 1959 and 1960 Topps baseball cards from a former colleague who had kept them almost untouched since his childhood. There are almost 1,000 cards. I am not an expert on professional grading but I know that 75-80% of the 1959 cards are at least nrmt to nrmt-mt and that >90% of the 1960's are. Many of the '60's had never been touched right out of the pack (look mint to me). There a Mantles, Clemente's, Aarons, all the big stars and multiple high numbers included. I am interested in having some expert advice them concerning their possible graded conditions and would be willing to sell many of the multiples. I live in the midwest and would gladly welcome other forum members to contact me for correspondence. Ash

Not saying that the collection you picked up isnt extremely nice, but often times people who have been out of the loup and not familiar with grading have trouble with modern 3rd party grading standards. The fact is that even in 1959 most fresh cards pulled straight from packs do would not garner a nm/mt or above grade. The slightest bit of chipping, one tiny nick, wax and gum stains, and centering issues account for keeping the cards below that.
Again, dont take any of what I just said the wrong way. I am sure they are really nice, and an excellent collection. I for one would love to see you post some scans of cards to give us an idea of what you have, and many of us here can help with any questions fro that point.

I'm in your home state. Let me know if you decide to sell the entire group as one or --especially in need of a nice 1960 Yogi Berra.
I am sure you will do fine on the purchase. I would say you have many PSA 6/7 cards. As one person said to grade out the star cards, that is good advice. I would place them gently into a card box and store them for a later date when PSA has a grading special.
