Do you have a cutoff year??

For which you will absolutely not buy anything in PSA 8 or lower grade?? For me it is 1975, why?? Not sure, but for any year after that I buy PSA 9 or 10.

im usually not grade sensitive after the 80's. A tony gwynn rookie that is graded a 7 is fine by me. so, to answer your question...no cutoff. the only cards i require to be a PSA 9 or above are greg maddux cards.

No - because I am a player collector, and sometimes some of the esoteric/oddball issues are so tough to find in the first place, that the numerical grade the card may receive is completely irrelevant to me.

My 1982 FBI Disc PSA 2
1977 VZ Sticker PSA 2
etc.

are all good examples.

Since I can not really tell the difference between an 8 and a 10, I also do not have a cut off on 8's. I have many Walter Payton cards from the 80's that are in a PSA 8 case that I think look great. That being said I do not think I would purchase a card from the 70's or later (with a few exceptions) graded lower then a 7.

I have the same cutoff year Stingray - it's what I perceive as vintage/modern cut-off (entirely subjective of course).

I agree cutoffs are relative - we have 20+ yr olds here who think 1992 was the good old days.

I will tell you that some consider the cutoff at 1960 - I think the early 70s is a good cutoff.

I don't buy graded cards that much - but I can't tell a big difference between 8s and 9s in some issues.

1969 for hockey

1987 for Basketball

1973 because 73 was the last year Topps released in series.Cards after that appear to be easily found in 8 or better condition.

My cut-offs are:

pre-1954 will not buy lower than a 5.

1954-1955 will not buy lower than a 6.
1956-1975 will not buy lower than a 7
1976-now wioll not buy lower than a 8

I refuse to own anything less than a Pro 10. So as you see I don't really care about grades.
