1964 SMS sets & coins??

OK, all these SMS threads had me looking in the Redbook.

"In 1965, 1966, and 1967, Special Mint sets of higher-than-normal quality were made to substitute for Proof sets, which were not made during that period. Similar sets dated 1964 are reported to exist

The same thing is hinted to on a few websites as well, but they add the word "Specimen":
"Similar specimen sets dated 1964 are reported to exist."

PCGS refers to them too both in articles and the price guide:
"There also are a few known 1964 SMS coins, these likely struck as tests in late 1964 for the new 1965 SMS strikings."

I see a few nickels for sale on a prominent website, but they are advertised as '64 SMS, but PCGS# in the pic is the normal proof.

So my questions for those of you "In the know"

How can you tell them apart
Are there many out there or are they so rare you may as well not bother looking
Anyone have pictures or the whole set or individual coins

    I thought it was strange that there were no "SMS" threads, but 2,384 with "orgaSMS" in it - that should have clued me in.

    Dang! I just noticed that the Nickel is graded an MS68FS on Russ's auction link. I didn't think that SMS coins received an FS rating!
    I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.



    The name is LEE!
