how badly does chipping or rough edges hurt a card?

I was thinking about sending in this fisk under the $5 special, is it worth the effort?

    Looks like a 7 at best to me. I dont know what they are going for in that grade, but if you bought it cheap enough and just want it in a holder then $5 aint gonna hurt you. If you are just looking to sell then keeping it raw would most likely be the better pay off.

    Thanks guys! It was in the dollar box, I bought about $100 worth of what I hope are good deals. I was hoping 7 or 8, it's centered nice and has bright colors.

    Nice pickup for the price. I have plenty of cards in my collection just like that. Raw, great color, very nicely centered, and presents very well in a nice holder. Nothing wrong with that at all.

    How come I don't have any stores around me that have cards like those in their dollar boxes!?
    Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

    It was in a faded scratched up hard plastic in a store that cares more about MTG cards and is always full of sugared up kids. Nothing like loud music and a hundred screaming kids!

    IMO if the corners are sharp, rough cuts are ignored by PSA almost completely.

    COPPER is gutter !

    PSA does not downgrade at all for "original" factory cut rough edges. It that top left is the worst corner, it's a lock 8. Here is a card with very very rough edges on 2 sides that graded an 8 and I have seen many more examples.

    The sides of that Ryan are really rough. Not sure if it would get PSA-8 money. Most collectors buy the card, there are those few collectors who buy the holder. Just my 2 cents.

    rough cuts by factory are of little or no factor in final card grades.

    I know what you mean. The only thing in dollar boxes at the card store I go to are Ben Grieve Rookies, and Wally Joyners!
