Axtell, how much have any recent PSA 9 Walter Paytons gone for? Is this the toughest HOF'er in the set to obtain in PSA 9? I'm thinking of taking the plunge on this set as I have a few nice cards to submit. Thanks for your help.

An '85 Walter Payton PSA 9 will run between $150-$250. There hasn't been one listed for a while.

I would have to say the Payton is by far the toughest card to find in 9 of this set, with just 12 graded examples in existence and no 10s. As was mentioned, this card runs $150 - $250.

The Elway is a tough pull as well, but there are 32 floating around out there (I recently finally picked one up), and I was able to pick it up for about $50 (though I was willing to spend up to $100 for it).

The cards I think would pull surprising money would be the checklist cards. Of the three, there is just one 9 in existence (congrats, sixdart

. There are no 10s. I'd be curious to see what kind of money these would bring in 9.

they've vanished....used to be a decent one at rivergate (now closed after being robbed). there is a smaller one in goodlettsville. the one in hendersonville closed a few weeks ago. seems as though everyone is going online.

did you ever deal with art woods from lebanon?

planning on keeping the 8s (i need to start my reg set) and sell the others. figure i'd set my sights on 8s for now and upgrade later.

That's a good approach, as many 8s can be had for less than grading fees (I picked up a lot of them for roughly $1 each not too long ago).

Let me know how the grading results go, always good to see more interest in this great set.

No, I never dealt with him. I used to find some decent stuff in Antioch from a guy named Carl. His store was cleverly named Carl's Cards! Athlon used to have a store with some cards in Cool Springs, but they relocated to Opry Mills and have mostly autographed items,as I'm sure you know. Do you ever go to the fairgrounds when they have the big flea market? I'm going to give that a shot the next time it is held just to see if I can find any bargains. Anyway, the 1985's are one of my favorites and I'm glad to be a part of this segment of collectors.

Murfreesboro has a small shop by Cracker Barrel on Church street. Also a decent card show on the 1st and 3rd saturdays at the Ramada on Church St.

ID and Mr, just wanted to let you know that I went to the fairgrounds in Nashville today for the monhly flea mkt. and there was nothing there of interest. There used to be a few good dealers there in the late 1990's, but it appears they are gone now.

about 30-35 bucks should get you in a set.

last time i went to the fairgrounds there was basically nothing of any quality to look at. most were yugioh type stuff for kids. there was one guy who was attempting to sell his EX cards at high-beckett...

I do like that year's issue (85) the best......I look back at most of those 80's issues, and to me, they look a bit ugly now...what was I thinking then?

going well here. i got the rack box. i've opened one pack. i'm waiting for my sub to pop before opening the rest. i'm assuming they will pop tomorrow since my CC transaction is pending. normally when the transaction clears my grades post...at least that's what i'm counting on.

i just sent a 900+ sub and broke it down into 10 individual subs and 2 of them are ready (and these 2 include some 85s....wahooo)...

well, not what i had hoped for...several gems i know have been overlooked in this submission. i need to look very hard at some resubs. needless to say, i will be able to add many 8s to my reg set as i attempt to sell the 9s and 10s. below is a condensed list. i have multiples of some and have listed my highest grade example. out of 300 cards submitted i ended up with 2 - 7s, 1 - 9ST, 6 - 10s and the rest 8 and 9s. WOW!!! only 6 - 10s...the majority of this batch came from flawless rack packs.
