  • Yeah I saw that. There still is no confirmed number as to how many exist. Think, that is 3 Pujols Bowman Chrome /500 rookies!

Could eventually end up like the Papa Bush Yale card or the Frank Thomas no name on front. Hope for the buyers' sakes Gordon turns into a major superstar.
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12

Anyone ever think that the geniuses at Topps were kicking around ideas to boost sales and someone said "Remember that Frank Thomas No Name Card we cleaned up on....people are still opening that junk product looking for them. How about we let another rare error slip by us and get tons of national media coverage for free." Then again maybe it was just an error and I am a crazy conspiracy theorist.

P.S. There was a second shooter on the grassy knole.

I wonder how many bidders in that auction are Topps employees using this card to boost sales?

For 7k, there must be at least 1000 other cards I'd rather have.
  • Jumping on Allen's conspiracy theory....

Is it just coincidental that Topps makes a big push with Wal-Mart on their product and BAM!! Every Gordon found seems to come out of a Wal-Mart Blaster box???

Allen may be on to something.

As much as it pains me, these are real numbers you are seeing. Raw cards have been getting 4K+.......Does the guy on front mean anything..no,
no one expects him to do anything....it topps and its really really rare, everyone wants one, and many people are willing to spend the money
    on it.

I always thought topps were run by monkey, but for one shining moment, they were freaking geniuses!

Cmon, I bet everyone here has been to superwalmart late at night looking for blasters!

This card is equal to the error cards of the late 80's/early 90's. In 6 months to a year no one will care. The other thing I heard is that as part of Wal-Mart's deal they would be allowed to return whatever product did not sell in their stores back to Topps. If that is true Topps pulled off the promotion of a lifetime as every Wal-Mart has been cleaned out looking for these.

<< <i>I wonder what the cards would be going for if not for the shilling. >>

Doesn't look like shilling to me. The high bidder has won a bunch of high end modern hockey cards lately, so it seems like he may have the $ for something like this.
  • WinPitcherWinPitcher Posts: 27,726 ✭✭✭
In this case I don't see shilling either. I just see some nitwit that likes to play but not pay. the winner though is lucky he did not get run up as he had 3 extra bids Merkle was run up if i remm.

I'd rather have the cut out version. They will be the rare ones (eyeroll) when the dust settles.

When they were selling a month ago I wish I would have picked up a few for $900! 400% return on that investment would have been nice! I wouldn't touch them now.

Joestalin--I don't know if nobody expects him to do anything. He was an awesome college player. Not Bonds or AROD though.

Boo, take a look at the underbidder's feedback and bidding history. No way is this guy serious about paying $7,000 for that card.

last time I checked, Olbermann had bought 7 of the full Gordons, at least one cut, plus a Heritage master including the cut. If the bottom falls out of those things, he's left holding a very leaky bag.

Here, and here, and here (got a real steal on this one), and here, and here, and here, and here. Seven Gordons, total of $29,820.50. Wow, what kind of damage could I do to my current wantlist with that kind of money. Heh, I wouldn't have a current wantlist anymore - it'd be gone!

    4 left - over 800 buys?

If I'm the high bidder, there's no friggin way I pay the $6900 after being shilled almost $4000 by a NARU'ed underbidder.

    DOH!

  • Anyone else notice that the population of full Alex Gordon cards is going up on ebay? I counted 5 auctions for the card, and 1 rack pack with the card showing. Now I'm sure one of the auctions may be a resell, but as this story grows, so too will the amount of cards surfacing.

I'd be willing to pay that much if the bidding was LEGITIMATE. Is anyone going to argue this underbidder was remotely serious about his bidding?

Not sure if he was a shill, BUT he certaintly was messing up many auctions. his now private feedback was public just the other day.

I agree with the bighurt on this one.

He is apparently very liberal about leaving feedback if he's unhappy!

    2/4 left was a negative.

It's hard to say which sellers actually have a Alex Gordon Topps and which don't. For example, I'd stay away from sellers who have zero feedback and don't take Paypal (there are two up on Ebay from such sellers).

As for the number of cards surfacing, I believe the number is around a dozen in the last month and I'm sure a few of them are quick flips. Personally, I'd wait for the frenzy to die down. There's no way in hell this is a $4000-$7500 card a year from now.

Imagine seeing a BIN on the Gordon at under $1,000. They must've image in their pants trying to hit the "BIN" button.

The seller only accepted Paypal, so it'll be interesting to see how that goes. If he was going to rip someone off, he would've had a much easier time taking only a check or MO.

Just an update on the Alex Gordon 2006 topps. This one just sold for $810, when last year they were selling for $4000-7000 raw.

A raw Gordon just sold for $338 last night on ebay. I would like to get one before the season starts as this could be his breakout year.

  • too bad he plays for the Royals.
