i know, that card will probably command $300 plus easily. With that the $20 bucks is not so evil with the insurance and everything BUT .... man ...... 20 bucks for 1 slab!
I wouldn't be surprised if the card falls short of its value - there is a select group of people willing to pay the price for that card, but I can't think of one who wouldn't be pissed off by the obvious shipping gouge. I know if I wanted this card, I'd wait to buy it from a less greedy seller.

You are all looking at it the wrong way. The item is clearly worth more than $20. Just factor the shipping into your bidding. It is another way to avoid ebay's listing charge , that is all.
Always buying high grade Mike Schmidt and Steve Carlton cards!!!
Browntoni - gotta disagree with you. I don't think we're looking at it wrong at all. I do not patronize dealers who appear rude, greedy, unscrupulous whatever. Of course, any potential buyer will factor in the cost of shipping - I think this is more about how NOT to do business. He's scaring off customers with his greed, even if it's just me. I've got a number of sellers I won't patronize regardless of what they are offering.

This card is a 1 of 1 in PSA 10 and very difficult to pull in high grade raw. Its almost like the cousin of the #400 Ryan in this issue. In a BAD place on the sheet I suppose. In other words, this card will not fall short in hammer price IMO.
I also have a small but growing list of dealers I will NEVER buy a card from regardless of what they are offering. In most cases it has been becuase of low grade bush league service and misleading advertising. This one though does irk me with the $20 ship charge.
One thing I never understood is if people are selling a card of this caliber, why not spend the time and couple pennies to do the auction up nice. The seller could have taken the time to make a good picture. This picture is blurry and cuts off the "PSA" at the top of the holder. Also, for 10 cents, you can use Ebay listing designer and really do it up nice. I put more effort into selling a $10 card than others do for selling a $500+ card.
BTW, if I had to guess, if this card is a 1/1, it should easily be in the $700-$1000 range or higher. I submitted the first 1980 Brett 10 and I sold it for $700 and this card is a little older. Mine was a couple years ago though so I'm sure the market has changed.
You are right. It is probably the scanner that makes the card look blurry. The whole auction presentation is horrible. Along with the excessive shipping charges, I am sure that the poor looking auction affects the final price.
Though I would find it annoying, if I wanted a card that expensive, I would also just factor it in my bidding. I get more p*ssed off when Im looking at a 10.00 card with a 6.00 shipping charge and will then avoid those dealers.
that brett will go for sick money, besides it being super tough anyway, you have a ton of brett collectors out there widening the audience for it beyond the 78 crowd. no paypal will hurt more than the $20 shipping imo.
i'm still waiting to see the psa 10 stennett that Brian pulled. I still can't believe that occurred considering i've got a stack of off center ones a mile high 8-)

Hey guy, Brian pulled at PSa 10 Stennett? Man, I am out of the loop on that one! wow!
If the card sells for $1100 then the shipping charge is not that outrageous. It would not keep me from bidding on it. There has been many times where a card has sold for much more than I was anticipating. I placed the shipping/handling for $4 and I have spent $8-11 to have it properly insured and packaged. This guy knows that the card will bring big dollars and wants to make sure he has enough money to cover the costs. What burns me is when a card sells for $900 and the buyer says he does not want insurance. If I ship the card and he does not get it, I get burned by the negative and the charge back from Paypal. He assumes zero responsibility. He just needs to say that shipping is $4 and insurance is required on all items that sell for more than $200.

COPPER is gutter !

There's no excuse to charge 20.00 to ship a 300.00 card........unless the seller thinks he's got a goldmine there?

The guy has great feedback--everything is disclosed--I would feel good about buying from him.
