1982 Topps BB Rack Box Break

I just got my '82 rack box from BBCE and have ripped the first rack. Top card in the first section (Randy Martz) had a major edge ding. Corners were decent through out the rack, centering was hit and miss. Here are the two that will make my next submission:

More racks as my one year old daughter allows me to open them.

Ok, on to rack two. About the same centering and corners as rack one. Again top card in the first section (Frank LaCorte) had a major edge ding. There was a Baines 2nd year and Rose All-Star but they were to off-center to grade. I found three that I like from this rack. Another Stargell!

Again the top card in the first section of the third rack had an edge ding. The entire middle section was off center l/r. Kind of a shame since there was a Lee Smith (rookie, I think), Bruce Sutter AS and Gary Carter AS. Third section was a little better on the centering but a Joe Morgan and Ozzie Smith were no better than 20/80 left to right. Again I found three to submit.

Taking a break for a while to feed my three year old son.

Rack four was awful! Nothing submittable due to poor centering l/r. Top card, 1st section (Warren Brusstar) again dinged. Here is how the dings are looking. The Carew is still wrapped in rack #5.

Rack five was much better on l/r centering but now off t/b. A Schmidt wasted 85/15 t/b! Only one to submit from this rack.

Rack six was a little better on the centering but only McReynolds made the submission. Wasted a Bench and Guidry.

Rack seven was much better with several commons that should grade high. I'll check the pop report before submitting. Goose and Righetti looked the best.

The top card in the 1st section was not dinged on either of these racks.

I'm taking a break for a while. I'll rip some more later this evening.

Ah - takes me back to being 12 - not that I cared about centering much though

I enjoy the synopsis - keep going if you care to!

Rack eight was terrible with t/b centering. Lots of HOFers wasted. Nothing for the submission. Also noticing a pattern as I have several triplicates so far. Carew will make the cut.

Rack nine was only fair at best. Brett, Palmer, Bench and Jackson were wasted by centering. Nothing for the submission.

Rack ten found the first (of hopefully many) Ripken. This is a well centered example with sharp corners. A couple pf "fish eyes" keep the surface from being perfect. If anybody needs George Foster or Vida Blue in quantity I have several of each!

Rack eleven was much better in regards to centering. Three will be added to the submission including a Dave Stewart Rookie.

I found the sequence for when the 'future star' cards turn up to be pretty obvious - 82 rack topps.

I finished ripping the box and no more Ripkens. Also no Ryan, Henderson or Rose. Coalilation was poor but that seems to be the case with most of the early 80's stuff I've opened. I have a total of 31 cards to submit for grading and also many commons to reevaluate. Not disappointed with the box just wish there weren't so many duplicates and triplicates. If anybody needs exmt - nm raw cards feel free to PM a list.

Funny how that despite collecting for 20 years there are cards I've never seen, even from sets as "recent" as 1982.

Nice Stewart rookie. I remember when that card got hot in the early 1990s. I think I paid $9 for one.

Great Bust, It brought back some memories for me also, The 82 set was the first complete set I ever bought when I was 12 years old. I ordered it from Kit Young in 1982 for I think 12 bucks.
