1955 Clemente

well I went to work today, but turns out I had today off. Anyway, he showed me what he had picked up since saturday. About 2/3 sets of '54b, '54topps, '55topps, '56 topps, and some other assorted stuff. I saw there were some big cards (54 ted williams, 55 williams, 55 aaron, etc etc) but nothing that I really wanted. Then as I went back thru the '55 set I saw a card I did NOT expect to see (especially since he had just glanced through them when buying and did not notice it..) a Clemente RC! It's a nice VG card with one hairline crease on the back bottom right corner. Otherwise no creasing or wrinkles. Any my, look at the centering (which judging by others on ebay is tough on these)

the card books for $2000 nm, and I got it for $240 plus tax. I am very happy with this purchase. Is that a good purchase? Any opinions on the card? It looks like my other '55's, so I am assuming it is authentic (is this a good assumption)

thanks
John

I love Clemente cards. I think for what you were offered it for, I would've jumped on it, too!

I think you've got a great looking card for your collection and a nice long term investment if nothing else...

The Clemente does have nice centering and honest wear. However if it does have a wrinkle (and those corners) it should grade out at PSA 2. Still a 200.00 -250.00 card.

is that a scuff mark on the front? above the O in Roberto?

    Nice card in any event.

    Good for you.

the little scuff mark is right where the hairline crease is on the back. The front is not creased but you can see where it is via that little light mark.

Congrats on a nice pick up John!! I think you got a good deal. Are you gonna have it graded?

    I think it's more like a psa 3
  • It's either a 2 or 3, and I think you got a good deal regardless.

That is a TOUGH card to find well-centered, and IMO, it presents very nicely. Most of the low-grade examples of this card on ebay have crap centering.

I'm thinking about having it graded. My 1 yr membership just ran out though, and I"m trying to justify another year go round. But one of the '57 topps I wanted to send in I just realized is trimmed. So it's hard to justify it for me LOL I just do not have enough worthy cards!

I would like to have it graded though.
