Quick question for Mitch or Dennis (or anyone?): Why is it the "D" mint State quarters are tougher in MS68 than the "P" mints yet the "P" mint 1999 SBA is way tougher than the "D" mint SBA?

Pat: It really is "too early to tell" whether the sizeable pop spread between 1999 SBA Dollars holds up P" vs "D". image

Can I suggest at this point that Dennis and myself engage in a head to head live bidding auction for the purchase of this coin? Anyone else can join in that wants to as well.

Owner please confirm that works with you. Otherwise, I will simply pass on the coin at this point and let Dennis have it now if he wants it. image Wondercoin.

Mitch- The coin was released three years ago. So far it is a pop 23 for the "D" mint and a pop 02 for the "P" mint. Too early to tell?

Wasnt this a $5,000+ wondercoin a few months back? How did it become pop2?

"Wasnt this a $5,000+ wondercoin a few months back? How did it become pop2? "

It may have been a $5,000 coin to someone that night, but was no "wondercoin". You'll recall this is the coin that was described by the seller as having various marks and the seller was commended for doing a fine job fairly describing the coin in a "no hype" auction.

It would not be right for me to comment on price while the pop 2 coin is "up for sale", so I will refrain from doing so.

Braddick: Yes, too early to tell imho. Consider this:

    1. Didn't Dabigkahuna from our boards personally grade the last dozen or so 1999(d) coins in PCGS-MS68 by himself. Without Larry, that pop might very well be only pop 2 vs. 9 or 10 right now!!

    2. There are HUNDREDS of 1999(p) in MS67 right now. Enough of an undergrade pool to find some more MS68 coins from down the road?

Just my own opinion here but I stand by the "too early to tell" comment. image Wondercoin.

So what are you saying? The other coin is not a true MS68, which would make this a true pop 1 or what? I am confused. You are not saying that there may be many more of these modern high grade coins are you? Odd!

Glad you interpreted that way. Besides stop worrying what "I am saying". You bid $8000 on a Jefferson nickel because 'I said it was worth at least $10,000" was essentially your comment at one point. Start worrying about what you are saying image Wondercoin.

I will let this bidding war go for 5 days from today 3/14/02. I prefer to have the bids pm to me.

I will pm each bidder with the highest price offered on the table and to see if anyone else is willing to beat that price.
  • I would like to see the bids here but I will do it either way.
    $1600.00 I bid.

Re: P or D being tougher, I don't know why, but I think it's a pretty safe bet that P mint will remain tougher.

I agree the tiny MS68 pop is more subject to fluctuation, but take a broader look... roughly equal numbers have been submitted, but there are 2X more MS67+ Denver than Philly coins (461 vs 228).
  • Just got an email from the seller saying the current bid is $2500. No way to verify that other than the seller's word

I don't believe "Susan B. Anthony" and "beautiful" belong in the same sentence. image
