1979 OPC Hockey Grades popped, holy crap! Anyone collect hockey?

From a GAI pack I busted. I was just hoping for a 9 or two, but wow! three 10's! Has anyone tried putting together this set? It would've been nice to pull a Gretzky in this pack let me tell you.

All the 10's and 9's are highest graded and 1/1's (except the Riley). Even the checklist is the highest graded (next highest is a 6). Wow.

Only 18 cards from the entire set have been graded PSA 10's (out of +3500). So I guess now I have about 15% of all the 1979 OPC PSA 10's out there image

Nope, I dont really know what these would go for, anyone have an idea? I saw a few common 9's in the $50-75 range (SMR is off just a tad)

1979 OPC's sell very well just be sure to offer shipping to Canada for these or you will cut out half your market. DSL just sold a bunch of these for a song this past week because they do not ship to Canada and they in turn eliminated the registry's #1 1979 OPC set collector from bidding post your 1979 results in this thread

Wow, such a tough set in high grade. Congratulations! What was the grade on the GAI pack?

A PSA 10 Hull went for $680 not too long ago on eBay. You can expect to get around $70 to $80 each for your 10's. The 9's you'll get $25-35ish maybe more for the Linseman.

Thanks guys! The pack was a GAI 9.5, well deserved I would say. It's a beautiful set, i would try putting it together if there were more graded examples out there, or if i could buy packs for less than $150 a pop.

Personally, I would put the 10's out with a $59.00 Reserve and state your reserve amount in the description section. The demand is not too bad for the 1/1's right now .

There's been a few threads on this set in the past year or so about this set, and if you look them up you'll see there is some sort of interest on this board. Submissions like yours and listings like those recently on ebay could be the beginning of the ball really rolling on this set.
    WANTED:

2004 UD Legends Bake McBride autos & parallels, and 1974 Topps #601 PSA 9
Rare Grady Sizemore parallels, printing plates, autographs

It would be great if there was a way to get some mint commons. I would love to work out a deal to open some packs if I could arrange some agreement to give any gretzkys i pull to the seller or whomever wanted to take that gamble, because at $100-$150 a pack, its really impossible to put together a set that way.

Just from the bidding action on ebay, I would say, on a bad day, you could get $40 for your PSA 10's! On a good day, "one hundred dollars each!

I've been accumulating some '70's OPC Hockey in mint lately, I've been able to purchase some '76's, '77's & '78's (edit: on ebay!)
but no 1979's in PSA 10!

I for one would bid on those cards, most likely at the higher ranges. Come to think of it, PSA 9's are also fairly hard to come by, compared to some other '70's dates.

    Good luck!

That's was a great pack. One has to think there's another PSA 10 Gretzky in a pack lurking among us.
