MTG - Suspicious ebay auction

Hi fellow MTG collectors.

I was going to bid on this auction ebay auction 6602002389.

But noticed a few things that made me back off. Thought I'd point them out to you guys who are thinking of bidding on it. If I am being too sensitive or you can vouch for the integrity of the seller, please reply with your view to be fair for the seller.

1. Check out the bidder lashbrown. There are several things I am uncomfortable with this bidder. Lashbrown only won auctions from the seller. Total of 7 times and started since Apr, 2004. For a bidder who only won from the same seller for almost 2 yrs, that seems strange.

2. Also, check out the 2 auctions lashbrown won on Nov 21, 2005 (the 3 PSA cards won are the same grade as in the current auction and if you enlarge the image, the S/N look to be the same, surprise). So my question is didn't these cards sold to lashbrown almost 3 months ago.

3. The seller does have some decent buyers such as kegel and spacebaby and similarly lots more decent sellers. I state this to be fair to the seller.

I'm new to MTG cards but is that about a correct price for that lot of cards? $102 doesn't even cover grading fees for 22 cards. It would seem that a lot like that would be worth more but I really don't know what I'm looking at. What's about an approx. value for a lot like that?
  • Only 3 of the cards, the Ifh-Bifh Efreet, Reset and Dakkon Blackblade are worth anything more than the grading fee to begin with. My guess is the person sent in a batch of cards hoping for Gems, did not score, and was just hoping to recoup some of his investment. It's the endless cycle for PSA, send in your cards, sell what you did not need to raise more cash to send in more cards.....lather, rinse, repeat image

The PSA 10 Dark Ritual was the only card in the auction of any real value (to me). I bid on the basis if I won I'd get that card and sell the rest of them off hoping to recover whatever I could.

    Ah well. It's only a common I guess. :-)

I'm sure the seller has posted on these boards in one of the other mtg threads and is probably reading this thread. Maybe they'll comment on whether they got what they were hoping for!

Speaking of suspcious auctions, are we all going to have a fight over that PSA 10 Alpha card that has just popped up on ebay? :-)
  • Why would we fight??? Some of us already have one image

Of course, I could always jump in to corner the market, but I would not do that would I?.........image

I just bought 18 cards from ebay, some Beta and Arabian nights, that look really nice and I was going to have them graded and then resell them. But, based on that auction, I think I'm changing my mind. It looks like you need a 9 to break even and you take a bath on 8's. That doesn't seem like a winning proposition unless they give out tons of 10's. Here's a list of the cards I have:

    Arabian Nights - Cuombajj Witches
    Arabian Nights - Hasran Ogress
    Arabian Nights - Fishliver Oil
    Arabian Nights - Giant Tortoise
    Arabian Nights - Unstable Mutation
    Arabian Nights - Bird Maiden
    Arabian Nights - Hurr Jackal
    Arabian Nights - Ghazban Ogre
    Arabian Nights - Wyluli Wolf
Arabian Nights - Island Fish Jasconius
    Beta - Death Ward
    Beta - Holy Armor
    Beta - Samite Healer
    Beta - Shanodin Dryads
    Beta - War Mammoth
    Beta - Jump
    Beta - Power Leak
    Beta - Dwarven Warriors

Like I said, I'm really new to MTG cards so I'm not sure which cards are more popular than others. I got all these really cheap and they are nice so either way, I'm happy with them, I'm just not sure if they are worth grading. I had 4 other cards graded so far and I got 4 PSA 9's. These look to be similiar condition and they are all centered nice. So, if I was expecting mostly PSA 9's from these with a few 8's and hopefully a 10 or two, do you guys think they would be worth grading? Would that retreive my grading fees or am I going to be trying to dump these for $3 or $4 each? Your advice is appriciated.

By the way, sorry for hijacking the thread, I just always have a ton of questions as I'm trying to learn these cards.

  • Sounded like there are scammers who would ask other ebayers to help list high-priced items for sale. The ebayers would collect the $$$ after the auctions, keep their share and send the rest to the scammers. But then, the scammers do not send the goods. Eeeeek. The buyers of course will then chase after the ebayers with the listing.

Pretty impressive trick. Persuasion of the mind!!!
