Mickey Mantle Frauds

Just out of curiosity, I thought I would do a search on ebay for 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle to see if there are still frauds showing up. Its been a while since I last checked, so I wasnt holding out much hope. Boy am I dumb. Is this still a daily occurance?

Just tried to add that cert # to a 1952 Topps set and it was accepted.

So, nobody currently has it registered in any set on the PSA set registry ...

Got a scan of the back of the card, but the flips do not match.

Should this flip have a hologram on the right, if it were to match the front? I thought the flip with the rounded corners had the hologram on the back and the flip with the square corners has no hologram.

That back is a different card! Check it out clsoely... the front scan is an oversize Topps '52 card. The back is a standard 2.5 x 3.45 card! See the size of the insert on the holder? Must be from a reprint. What a dumbass!

He emailed me again today and insists the card is real. If it's real and he has it how come the two scans are from 2 different holders?

Why are you so sure its a fake.
Note the entire holder height is less in the scan of the back so maybe it
was done at a different % setting in the scanner.

Look closely at the scan. I overlapped them a little so you could see the holders and the flips or certs front and back are the same size, therefore the card should be the same size if it is the same card. Also look around the border of the card. Those are 2 different holders. The one with the back of the card has plastic around the edge of the card because the card is smaller. The front has less plastic because it is a holder for a larger card. Also the flip with the red rounded corners should have a hologram on the reverse side. This has no hologram.

to bid you must get verified by ebay. at a cost of 5 bucks. to the unkowing that gives this auction an air of legitimacy. I would hope that ebay would make sure some how that a person does truly have an item when the bidding gets like this.

It's been a few days since I emailed eBay about this auction but no response and auction is still running. They must not think much of my opinion. Oh well. Hope I was wrong, otherwise someone is going to be out a lot of money.

Boy, you guys are good....the front and back of the flips absolutely do not match. The front flip is very old, used before PSA went public back in 2000. The back of the flip is a new one....also shows the nasdac stock ticker symbol.

He replied to an e-mail of mine that he would send scans of the back of the card, accept the use of an escrow Company and send me a pic of the card with an index card including his username on it.

He never did send anything though. I would be surprised if this wasn't a scam.

Well the auction ended at 50K plus, feedback was left from the buyer in 2 days. Seems Shawn delivered it in person. <eyeroll> Looking at the winners previous feedback she has won 3 other private auctions from? you guessed it Shawn!!!

20 feedback buyer, that buys 2.00 legos was the winner.

I wonder when Shawn is gonna sell some more Mantles.
