Does anyone use coin collecting software?

Does anyone use any type of coin collecting software? What are the pros and cons to what you have? Do any of them update value using the PCGS price guide, or any reputable price guide? I am currently using a spread sheet, which I don't like any more. Too many different kinds of coins in the collection, can't cross reference anything, etc.

I am revisiting my collection from my youth (a long time ago), and wish to add to it, just in a more systematic way, which I believe software will help me do.

I am curious myself. The feature of a price value update would be really nice. I am also curious of how they handle the photo aspect. You just put me into research mode

I use Coin Elite by Trove software. They do offer market updates but I perfer to do it manually.

I tried a couple different software packages, but Excel spreadsheets work the best for me.

I actually use the Heritage My Collection™ website. I've entered my coins in using their pulldown menu - it'll take any major TPG as well as raw - you can add notes and pics, and download the text information as an Excel spreadsheet. Best part is that it's free. Pricing is a little off, but probably ok for insurance purposes...

Save your money. Excel does everything you need to track a collection.

I too, use Excel...Especially for the Registry sets.
There is no software, that I have found, which tracks, calculates, and stores registry information, so I made my own.
Excel is GREAT!

Yeah, but...
The data entry involved in setting up Excel is too overhwleming for me. Did you enter every date in the series you follow? If not, how do you generate a needs list?

Personally, I use Coin Elite as well. On a scale of 10, I give it a 5. Maybe some of the things that annoy me about it have been fixed, but I haven't updated in about 3 years. I've heard some guys talk about the program crashing with recent updates, though maybe that's been fixed, too.

Built my own Access database. I have built in Registries and virtually all of the Redbook coins are inside already.

I use excel also. I just copied the required coins from the registries I follow. I entered my coins in the appropriate rows. The rows with no information are the ones I need. I also added columns for cost, purchase info, grade, Slab type/ S#, etc...

I even added a calculator to figure out what the registry totals would be so I can play around with imaginary coin entries to see how I would fare if I owned xxxxxxx.

If you have spares then just copy the line item down below and label the table spares.

I just use excel.....

Have been expanding and growing it as needed, but I started doing this when collection was only 10 coins or so.....

It fills my purpose.....

Another Coin Elite, by Trove, user here. No problems, easy to use, very basic. Price guide is 'ok.' I'm not a techie or major obsessive -compulsive on record-keeping; it does a fine job for the price imo.

I wrote my own program in MS Access. It's somewhat like CoinElite but nowhere near the functionality....not even close.

I did it because I wanted to learn a bit about VBA programming and at the same time make something that was reasonably useful....

Otherwise Excel probably would have been just fine....

I use both Coin Manage by liberty street and excel spreadsheets. While coinmanage does annual price updates, I prefer to do mine by hand.

Joe, thanks for the suggestion. It's free, very user friendly (even for this computer illerterate) and seems to be well thought out - it certainly seems to meet my needs for an inventory database I can add to easily and from which I can publish tags, catalogs and web sites. Rob

I just now signed up but already love their manual and transparency.
