Labeling 2x2 Cardboard holder's..... Suggestion's???

I know everyone that collect's coins at sometime or another get's tired of trying to neatly write on the 2x2 holders. Sometime's trying to put enough info is a severe pain. I found some mailing label's yesterday that are 1/2"x 1 3/4" with 80 labels per sheet. They are made by Avery and are designed to work with preset layouts in Microsoft Word. I plan on giving it a try today. Hopefully i can get some result's that will speed up the process. I would like to be able to list the following on the label;
Date:_____ Grade:___
Denom:__________
Country:__________
KM#________

I'm open for suggestion's, Any input would be helpful and appreciated.

Thank's,

You might also want to consider including mint marks, privy marks, and some way of denoting varieties/errors. I find that the info I include on a 2x2 depends on the series. Sometimes very little information is needed but in other cases I have a fair amount of writing to do. I find that my cast Korean and Chinese coins require the most while most of my North American and European coins require the least.

This is one (but not the only) reason that I'm switching from 2x2s to flips for storage of all my raw coins.

My coin database (actually a bunch of web page CGI scripts I wrote) allows me to click on a link and it gives me a semiformatted mini-report on that coin:

    Country
    Denomination
    Date
    Catalog #
    Grade
    Mintage
    Inventory #
    Cost
    Value

I can highlight and copy that from MSIE (using Firefox does not retain the formatting) into an Adobe PageMaker template I designed 20-up (4 columns of 5 rows for 20 per page) 1.75x1.75 inserts. Once I have 20 I print it on card stock and cut out the inserts.

All the information easily fits on the insert and is quite readable.
  • I use the same size labels, but I print on half of the label, and repeat the information on the other half, then I fold it around the 2X2. This way the label is on both sides of the 2X2. Doing it like this, you don’t cover the coin for larger coins.

I will scan a page from my type set this afternoon and post it. Then you will see what I have done. I also use color on the labels to help show some information.

It looks great, but is a lot of work. Good Luck,

    Bob
