1938 Set (Tobbaco Cards) 54 card set in mint condition

I recently won a set of 54 cards (from England) of 1938 John Sinclair cigarettes cards titled "Championship Dogs" a set of b & w photo cards of 54 different dogs. (I hope this set is not also "a dog"? LOL!).

1. 1938 John Sinclair "Championship Dogs" 54-card mint set ($ 36.28 for the set)

I was assured by the seller that this is an all original set (not a repo) and the set is in mint condition. He further explained that he does sell repo sets, but he would clearly state in his description if indeed a set is a repo. In addition to this earlier set (i.e. 1938), I also bought (3) other original sets (in mint condition), at, what I believe to be very reasonable prices:

2. 1956 Railways of the World by Parmount Sweets (Cadet) a 50-card set in mint condition ($ 38.11 for the set)

3. 1956 150 Years of Locomotives by Robert Miranda, Ltd. a 50-card set in mint condition ($ 6.81 for the set)

4. 1966 set of 25 mint cards by Glengettie Tea titled "Trains of the World" ($ 6.35 for the set)

I am curious to see just what this seller calls mint condition. His feedback looks great and he responded to me 'right away" with what seemed to be professional and informative answers to my questions and concerns. So, we shall see just what under a hundred dollars brings me (i.e. 4 sets of "so-called" vintage "mint condition" tobbaco/tea/cigarette/trade cards from circa 1938, 1956 (2) & 1966)?

When I receive these (4) sets, I will post my opinions of them here.

P.S. can these "so-called mint condition" vintage cards pass the PSA test? LOL!

Good luck. I have no doubt the cards will be lovely, crease free and in great shape for their age.
And the seller is reputable - I've bought from him before.
That being said, British "mint" doesn't mean the same as PSA mint.
Hopefully, you bought the sets because you want to enjoy and appreciate the cards.

    I agree Mark
Even with the "British" mint - at those prices - these sets are like little pieces of art history.

I have been pleasantly surprised on some of my purchases!

    rbd,

Interesting topic.I was at the National this year and had a conversation with a seller of raw high grade vintage non-sportscards from Scottsdale Cards about these overseas sets.I had been watching a few sets from England as well as Australia over the course of the last few weeks prior to the National,(He said that they are indeed genuine and there are a lot of truly mint sets out there as they were mass produced and readily available).I asked him about how they hold value and he stated that since they were fairly cheap and could be bought rather inexpensively(as evidence by your purchases)and with the exception of a few sets that had something to do with American themes,(television shows, movie stars, etc.) they were cool to have but not a very good investment.I may eventually buy a few sets as they are really cool but after having had my conversation will not look at them as a way to make money by flipping them or as an investment but purely as a neat set of cards.I am not trying to rain on your cards, just sharing the information that I learned from what I consider to be a very knowledgeable and reputable dealer. If those train sets were as nice as the ones I saw(or the same),I think you got a couple of nice sets.

Please be kind to me. Even though I'm now a former postal employee, I'm still capable of snapping at any time.
