image I love the ones that state emphatically: "This is not a reprint set!"

No, of course not. You're selling the complete '51 Bowman set for less than the value of the Mantle alone because you're already rich. You don't have time to get it graded because that would only triple or quadruple your sale price, and it's not worth the trouble.

Unfortunately, there really are eBayers as naive and gullible as he is hoping.
  • Lets all just take pause for a moment and take a closer look at the scans the seller is providing... I see what appear to be some light wax/gum staining on some of the backs of the cards he has scanned... the guy is offerring a "double-your-money-back/30 day guarantee" to boot. The reprints that I have seen of this set have noticeably larger borders, and the scans the seller has provided appear to show vintage border sizing. I am not claiming to know this is a genuine auction for real vintage cards, but unless the seller took the time to resize every card in the set and then create what appears to be natural wear/touches on the corners of the "key" cards to the set, I would have to say that the auction, at least in my amateur observation, appears to be for a raw set of 1951 Bowmans...

I could be mistaken of course, but you have to admit, the dark cloud of negativity on these boards may just be growing a little out of whack...

That said, I doubt I will be a bidder on this particular auction.
  • He does only have 38 feedbacks, but they are 100% positive, and it appears that some of his transactions occurred with some very experienced Ebayers... this is either the scam of the year or the opportunity of a lifetime imo.

I wish I lived in Canada so I could see the set in person...

It defies logic. The owner of a complete '51 Bowman set is clueless about its value? No, because he cites high Beckett value of $27K. The Mantle and Mays are EX or better, and look very nice, but he chooses not to grade them and multiply his profit several times?

I agree they don't look like reprints, but something is very wrong with this picture.
  • You asked:
"I will use the buy it now if you agree to meet me to exchange money for cards. I want to personally inspect the cards. if you would rather use escrow.com I will deposit the money and pay the fees for the use of escrow.com..if you are not aware of escrow.com goto the website and read about it."

    his response:
My dad got burned bad once with a buyer paying through an escrow company. However, if you want to come pick the card set up with cash, we might be able to arrange that. Where do you live? Thanks.

  • Did you check out what his feedbacks are for? I believe his average transaction in 38 feedbacks is about $0.50! Most of his feedbacks are for cards he sold that went for $0.02 to $0.20 each. Now he is selling a $3900 item. Fsihy???

Oh canada. Maybe he if took Paypal, but sending that guy cash is the same as burning it.
Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!

Burned by an escrow deal? The only way to get "burned" as a seller is if the buyer cancels the deal, in which case you get your item back and the buyer gets his money back. I wouldn't be so quick to point out that a buyer backed out of an escrow deal ... that makes the seller look bad.

My dad ... Ah, so this is a young collector. With 38 feedbacks of a few cents each. Maybe that's why NOBODY has bid yet on this set that would be worth multiple times the opening bid if it was real.

Where's Whitey? If I was selling a '51 Bowman set, #1 Whitey Ford certainly would be one of the cards I'd scan. Any legitimate seller would. But a kid might not even know that Ford is a special card that a buyer would need to see.

But the real clincher? "Double your money back guarantee"
